    I went to the Devachan salon in NYC for my cut, but wanted something closer to home for maintenance and color. I was fortunate to come upon Jo Bruno Salon and Luveena. Her approach to "curly girls" is spot-on Devachan and the color (Pintura) as good as anything I could have gotten at the Devachan mother-ship. She listens to what you want and works with you to achieve it. Now, if they'd only open a branch closer to Hartford!

    Hands down the best haircut I have ever received! Luvena asked me what I wanted and made suggestions. The DevaCurl product demonstration was so helpful as well! The product is wonderful and the cut is even better. My curls have never looked this healthy, touchable, and full of bounce. I have heavy hair so I usually get the crunchy look in an attempt to have all day hold. I also have all day humidity control now! I LOVE this cut and the DevaCurl products!

    I had a great experience at this salon! I usually go to New york city for haircuts, however, after reading the reviews for this salon right here in CT, I had to try it out. The cut was only $40 (compared to the usual $150 I pay), the salon was a beautiful loft space in new haven, and the staff was friendly. Luvena cut my hair dry so she could accurately cut into the "s" pattern. She also showed me the correct technique to use Deva products and gave me the Deva curl book to read under the dryer. I left with well defined & bouncy curls. I highly recommend this salon!

    I've gone to this salon three times before; the first two times Jo cut my hair, and the most recent time Luvena cut it. I've been extremely happy with every cut I've gotten here. Both Jo and Luvena listened to the concerns I had with my hair and gave me fantastic cuts. I will continue to get my hair cut here. The atmosphere at the salon is also very pleasant and relaxing. The stylists offer you drinks and reading material while you're waiting (under the dryer for example) and I've never had them push any products on me. For anyone who is new to the CG routine, Jo does a fabulous job of walking you through the washing and styling steps.

    When I was growing up in New Haven, there weren't any salons specializing in curly hair. Now that I am back, I am delighted and ecstatic that Jo Bruno Hair is here! All of the stylists are trained in the Devachan style (which I came to love in NYC). Luvena is wonderful! She listened to what I wanted and asked questions to make sure she understood. It's a cute shop, my haircut is amazing (have been getting compliments since I stepped onto the sidewalk) and the price is right too. I picked up a handful of Luvena's business cards because my curly friends deserve to know about this place. Awesome! Thank you!

    I was a little nervous, having only been to one Deva-trained stylist for many cuts in the past. I loved that particular stylist, but recently moved and can't make the trek back to her. I didn't know if the magic was my stylist or the training. Luvena was great, my hair is perfect, couldn't be happier!

    I have been following the Curly Girl method started by Lorraine Massey for years and I also went to NYC to the Devachan salon to get my hair cut. When I moved to CT it got harder and was very expensive. The reviews here took me to Jo Bruno Salon where Jesse gave me a ROCKIN' curly style with lots of bounce, body and curl. I love my hair more then ever now!! Thanks Jessie.

    Jo Bruno Hair is the best salon in the Greater New Haven area! I used to go all the way to NYC for a haircut, which took time and money. Fortunately Jo Bruno Hair opened and has given me access to high quality products, style and personal service. I have long curly hair and before JBH - I would walk out of salons saying "oh, maybe it will be better when I style it" - I would leave salons looking like a big red poodle! At JBH, I walk out with gorgeous, shiny bouncy curls all behaving and looking fierce! Unlike the previous reviewer - I have never had an "uneven cut". I find it odd that that reviewer didn't just call the salon to go back and have them fix it. All top notch salons will do this for you. I know that it drives stylists crazy to think that someone is unhappy and didn't let them know. I love Jo Bruno Hair and I wouldn't go anywhere else! Great stylists, great products, great attitude = happy, gorgeous curls!

    Jo Bruno is an absolute genius. I have been going to her for a couple years now after a reccommendation on this website. I spent my life walking out of salons in tears, or just in disgust and ran home to redo my hair. NEVER, EVER once have I had to leave Jo's salon and even touch my hair. I have very curly hair and originally had her cut it curly and dry. But one time I had her blow dry and flat iron it straight and it looks awesome too. My point is, she can cut it straight or curly and it still comes out great every time I do it myself. I dont know how she does it but I get compliments all the time and give the credit to Jo. Ive sent many a co-worker to her and they all love her. I have learned that curly hair takes work and the tips she gives are invaluable and work. I was doing everything wrong and wondering why my hair was fried and dead looking. Since Jo, my hair is in the best shape ever! Soft, shiny whther its straight or curly. The salon is very cool. Worth the inconvenience of having to park downtown New Haven. The other gals there are great too. Jesse has done some funky, cool cuts on the ladies that have been there at the same time and she is very knowledgable as well. Lavenia blew dry my hair once and did such an awesome job that she didnt even need to use the flat iron!!! that was amazing. Jeff at the front desk is very nice as well. its just an incredible place and I thank God that I found Jo. She is my hero and I take her advice to heart. Treat yourself to Jo Bruno Salon, you will never go anywhere again!!!

    After many recommendations, I went to Jo Bruno Hair to see what they could do with my curly/frizzy hair. Luvena was my stylist. I walked in frustrated and out of ideas to tame my hair. I walked out with beautiful, versitile and EASY to manage hair! Which is something I have not had before! I highly recommend Luvena and Jo Bruno Hair!

    I was really excited to be going to this salon based on the reviews on this website. I'd gone to check it out before getting a haircut and everyone is super nice and the salon is really cute and homey, so I booked an appointment. I was given some useful tips for styling my hair but the haircut was disappointing. It was nothing like what I'd requested and I now have to grow it out to achieve the desired results. I also like to straighten my hair occasionally and when I did after this haircut, it was visibly uneven and now I can't wear it straight at all. Maybe it was an off day, I don't know, but I do know I won't be going back. It's really a shame because I really liked Jo, but not the haircut.

    Jesse was great. I was donating my long curly hair to make cancer wigs and ended up cutting off 12 inches! Jesse listened so well to what I wanted, I wasn't traumatized by the loss at all. In fact, this is the best haircut I've had all my life. She also told me exactly how to get the most out of my new style and my curls, going through a typical morning ritual with me step by step. I recommend her highly and 110%!

    Jo is rockin. I used to think that I should only let people with curly hair cut my hair, but Jo has disabused me of that notion. She knows exactly what she's doing, and is kind and friendly to boot! I had never gotten my hair cut in New Haven before (always went home to my mean Ouidad stylist in Philly), and I am happy to say that the recs on this site steered me towards an awesome stylist. Thanks Jo! My hair is exactly what I wanted!

    I just got the best haircut of my life! I have coarse, curly hair and Jo knew exactly what to do with it. She cut it dry, and then gave me step by step instructions about how to care for my curls at home to keep them looking as good as they did when I left the salon. Just wonderful. Really listened to me, but also knew a lot - more than anyone I've seen - about how to cut and care for curly hair. Awesome.

    Jo Bruno is AMAZING! My curly hair has never looked better. She cut my hair while it was dry so I could really see how the curls would fall, and she was careful not to cut off too much. She listened to me and cut my hair exactly as I wanted, and she genuinely cared about my happiness. She knew exactly what I was looking for. She uses Devachan products which are superb. Jo showed me precisely how to style and care for my hair so it is consistently shiney and healthy with beautiful curly ringlets. She also did a fantastic job on the color, and incorporated natural-looking highlights into my hair. I would definitely recommend contacting her!

    for as long as i have been letting my hair go curly, i have been struggling to try to find a salon in which i felt comfortable. after my first cut from jo the other day, i dont think i will ever be going anywhere else. she is seriously amazing; she really understands and listens to what you want, she doesnt push products on you, she teaches you what to do every step of the way so your hair can look good on your own time, and above all else she is a total sweetheart. i love her.
