  Over the last few years, I've gone to several stylists in the metroplex who are supposedly "curly hair experts", but I still was not overly impressed with any of them until today when I had my first appointment with Angela. First of all, she's got beautiful curls, which definitely gives you confidence that she relates and knows what she's doing. Also, she was very careful to ask me exactly what I wanted to do with my hair and made sure she understood the length that I was going for. She was cautious not to cut too much but told me to tell her if I wanted it shorter, since you can always go shorter but obviously can't go longer once you've cut it. I've never had a stylist that was so careful to achieve the results I wanted. She was so friendly and easy to talk and made it such an enjoyable experience. The more she talked about curly hair and her experiences, the more I could see that she truly is an expert. She prefers to cut only curly hair, so it is definitely her specialty, not just something she occasionally does like other stylists I've seen. In the end, I got exactly the haircut I was looking for. She is worth every penny and I hope she stays in the area for a really long time because I plan on being a faithful client of hers.

  I have been a long time visitor of this site but have never posted until now. That alone should tell you something. I am African-American with predominantly 4a textured hair with spots of 3c maybe...I don't get into the hair typing thing. Anyway, I have been desperately looking for someone to cut my hair in its natural, curly state. All of the African-American salons I would visit insisted on blowing my hair dry first. Having suffered heat damage previously (despite the fact that I rarely straighten my hair), I refused to do this again. I got Angela's name from this site and after going back and forth for several months, I finally bit the bullet. I was not disappointed. When I made the appointment I told her that I had very tight, kinky hair and she said "great". When I arrived she took me to her chair immediately and did exactly what I wanted - a trim of the dead ends while retaining the length. She uses the deva cutting method which, to me, makes sense given the amount of shrinkage I suffer when my hair dries. She also gave me some great pointers on my hair including using Aloe Vera gel (which is now my HG) and using the DevaCurl One Condition as a leave-in (slightly rinsing but leaving some on the hair as a leave-in). She is awesome and I will definitely go back to see her. I'm even considering having her re-do my highlights (which are a necessity given my gray hair). Any African-American curlies in the Dallas area should not hesitate to visit Angela. Also, I found her prices to be reasonable.

  I had an appointment with Angela and it was simply amazing! She made me feel very comfortable right off the bat. First she asked me about my routine and products, then explained what would be best for my hair. She cut my hair, explaining what she was doing along the way. Afterwards, she gave me fantastic tips on how to add product and style my hair. (I'm from Arizona and the Dallas humidity hasn't been kind to my curls) She even showed me some techniques which I had never used to add great fullness to my hair. She was very knowledgable and friendly. Her advice, tips and techniques are amazing! My tresses have never looked better! I would recommend Angela to any curly girl in Dallas. She is awesome!

  Angela is fantastic! She asked me about my typical routine and products, then explained what she was going to do with my hair. She made me feel at ease while she worked her magic on my tresses. She gave me great tips on how to style my hair for the Dallas humidity (I am from Arizona originally) and the tips on technique were outstanding. She really took her time to explain the why's and why nots of product usage and when/how to style my hair. I have never been happier with a haircut in my life and would highly recommend Angela to anyone in Dallas. She is now the only person I will go to. Thanks for the beautiful locks Angela!

  Angela was great! I was skeptical when I found her, because I'd never let anyone who wasn't Black touch my hair before. I was desperate to find someone who could work with curly hair, so I gave her a try. When I went to her I had just started to seriously transition from relaxed to curly hair. She gave me great info on products to use, and techniques to wash & dry my hair PROPERLY, etc. She cut my hair, and it was beautiful when she was done. I'm definitely going back to her again.

  After 4 years of being a "Curly Girl" I finally found a stylist who not only cuts the "Curly Girl" way but is a devout follower of Lorraine Massey!!!! When I met Angela and saw her gorgeous curls I knew I was in the right place. Angela is a wonderful person and a devoted "Curly Girl" as well. I have Long 3a or Botticelli curls and I color with BAQ(Body Art Quality) henna. I am also all natural with products as well. My hair had not been cut since September so I was overdue for a trim and shape. Well, Angela gave me the best cut I have ever had!!!!!! She is my new friend and Curly Girl savior! If you are anywhere near the D/FW metroplex and need a curly cut, Angela is your girl!

  After years of bad curly haircuts, I had my hair cut by Angela at Michael Flores for the very first time on 9/4/2010. She talked to me about what I expected, what I was already using, and how my hair currently behaved. She really listened to what I was telling her and didn't rush me through to start cutting. She cut it exactly as I requested and didn't take a huge amount off. After the cut, she showed me how to use the products that I already had at home and showed me how to treat my hair as I air dryed it. This was the first time in my entire life that I did not have to use my scrunchie to tie back my hair and de-poof it after someone else styled it. I thought my hair looked great when I left, but that doesn't even compare to the amazing way it looks now. If it's possible, my hair gets even better looking every day! Run, don't walk to Angela!

  FINALLY!!! Oh my gosh. I finally found someone who really knows how to cut curly hair...3 years after moving to Dallas. I've been using the DevaCurl products for 10 years and had someone cutting my hair the DevaCurl way in Ohio but had no luck finding anyone in Dallas who really knew curls until I found Angela. Angela has been cutting the DevaCurl way for 6 years but just moved to the area. I'm so glad! Today was the first time in a LONG time that I didn't come straight home after getting a hair cut and put my head in the sink and start over on the styling. I love my cut. I love that she gets it!   Wow, what a difference an expert, curly hair stylist makes! I had my first visit with Angela on 8/12/2010 and I am so happy that I was referred to her. I arrived at the salon with dry, weighted down, lifeless , curls and left there with amazing, healthy, bouncy, big curls!! My hair has never looked so healthy! Angela not only boosted my curls, but she also educated me on what I have been doing wrong to my drab curls for the majority of my life. What an eye opening experience with a curly hair stylist like Angela can do for you! I have been using the Deva Curl line since my appt. And could not be happier with the highly recomended products.   I had my first appt. with yet another "curly hair expert" on Thursday 8/12/2010. Imagine my surprise when I realized my fabulous hairdresser Angela was exactly what she claimed to be! Angela, is indeed a one of a kind "curly hair expert!" I arrived to my appointment with drab, dry, not so curly hair, and left there with beautiful, nourished, bouncy, defined, big curls!!!! Angela also educated me throughout my appointment about things that I can do differently to keep my curls looking alive and happy. I have never had a stylist that I felt knew exactly what my hair needed, and then provided it with such great expertise! Angela is knowledgable in curly hair and provides a wonderful, saving force for people like me who were not in touch with their inner curls. My curls look so much more natural, happy, and well cared for since my visit with the curly hair expert Angela!! I can not rave enough about her and look forward to my next appointment so that she can see her hard work amd curl education in full force. I would recommend anyone that has naturally curly hair and has been less than successful getting it to look the way you always pictured it, visiting Angela at the beautiful Michael Flores Salon in Dallas.   I had my first DevaCurl haircut by Angela today, and absolutely LOVE my hair! I've been using the DevaCurl line for only a week now and am already seeing a huge difference in my curls. Angela has trained at the Devachan Salon in NY (where the DevaCurl line originates) and continues to attend workshops. She had really good suggestions for my hair and reassured me that I was on the right track. I would recommend ANYONE with curly hair to make an appointment with her.   Angela...you are a curly girl dream come true! I came in a mess after a BAD experience at a curly fav in Dallas that manage to completely kill my curls.. She took a great deal of time cutting, and cutting until it was perfect...and I am very pleased. No-poo ... Deva Curl...love it. My hair is so happy! Makes perfect sense that you would cut it dry..so you can see what the curls do! AND FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER..I left the saloon with my hair dry...amazing.

  I am so glad that I don't have to drive to Abilene to get the Va Va Voom in my life. Angela is the only person I let touch my hair. She is so talented and has such great skills. Her eye for hair is highly skilled. When she colors my hair it enhances my natural color and gives it a boost and she can also help me add drama as well for an intense look. Whether I want a drastic change or just something small done she gladly helps me with whatever I need. She is so friendly as well. The salon makes you feel calm and refreshed. You can even have a beverage to the side of you and a good magazine to read while you look out the window at the buds of Spring forming on the trees.

  Angela Hicks, formerly of Vendetta's Salon In Abilene. Dallas Curly Girls are so lucky she moved! I would recommend Angela Hicks to anyone with Curly hair. A curly girl herself, Angela is very knowledgeable about the cutting, styling and keeping of curly hair. She took her time, analyzing the curl pattern of my hair and asking about my expectations, current hair care regimen, etc. You can tell she enjoys what she does and wants to offer curly girls the opportunity to love their curls. The canopy of my hair is curlier than underneath and she compensated for that difference beautifully. She demonstrated several quick and easy styling techniques that work great for my hair type. I will definitely be returning to Angela's chair.
