- I have always struggled with stylists who wanted to cut my hair to a cut not cut my hair to how my hair curled...very frustrating to always end up with hair that looked like a triangle. I have been going to Jessica for the past 9 months or so and I appreciate her ability to cut my curly hair. I am able to communicate to her what I want and she makes it work.

- Was always skeptical about getting my hair done, because it never turned out great. My hair was a curly wavy mess before I met Jessica. She is AMAZING!!! She really spent her time with me explaining what she did and why. My hair has never felt or looked better! I have always tried different products with lack luster results, but Jessica really showed me which Deva products would work for me. I would highly recommend going to see Jessica at Shapes!!

- I have been seeing Megan @ Shapes for 2+ years. I was introduced to the Deva concept by happenstance when walking through Cherry Creek Mall. I loved the Deva product and searched for a Deva salon in Denver. I was pleased to find Shapes and even more happy to land with Megan. Megan understands curls and how to help her clients look great NATURALLY. I have to say that since Megan has been my stylist, I have had countless strangers approach me and tell my how beautiful my curls are. My curls have not changed over the years, what has changed is how my stylist works with them and teaches me how to make them look their best. If you are a Curly Girl, please go to Shapes--ask for Megan! PS...my color is wonderful too! :)

- Warning: Do not go here! I came here for a haircut and then wedding styling with Megan, and both times were fine. They didn't mess up my long black curly hair, which is always great. Until...the third time. When I came for a trim, I told Megan no more than 1-2 inches because my hair gets very puffy and does not look when it's not long. First, Megan started doing the back of my hair (dry), so I had no idea how much she was cutting. When she was starting to cut the sides of my faces, she was cutting at least 8 INCHES from my hair--it was chin length when my hair was below my bra strap! I started crying and said that this was WAY SHORTER than I had ever said, and she said it was just the side layers and it would look different when she washed and styled it. After she washed it, I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror because it was SO SHORT and not only was it short, but it looked like a triangle-cut mess! I swear, I looked like Rev. Al Sharpton or something. When I came home, even my husband, who always tries to comfort me and tell me I look good, couldn't honestly say it looked good. Furthermore, the hair on ONE SIDE OF MY HEAD IS SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTER than the other. It has been over 4 months since this terrible day in my hair history, and I still get upset when I look at the mirror. It will take AT LEAST 18 MONTHS or MORE to get my hair back to the length it was--and my hair still is longer on one side than the other, so it might even take more time to get both sides the same length. Everytime I drive past the salon, I get so disgusted.
Do not go here or at least do not go to Megan. She is young and does not have curly hair--she has clear communication issues and needs to get more experience under her belt. FYI, I did call the owner, Rochelle, afterwards, and I received very little sympathy from her. I do recall her saying "I don't believe it before I see it." She invited me back into the salon, but that is the last place I'd ever want to go.

- I went to Megan for a cut and color. She did a really nice job on my previously dyed blonde hair and dyed it back close to my natural color. She also did a great job cutting my 4a hair. She explained everything to me as she was doing it and was super responsive to my requests to cut off random heat damaged pieces...and to advise against cutting off some other ones I was eyeing. The owner, Richelle, also helped on my hair. She was super nice and threw in a free product. I will definitely be going back. Thanks ladies!

- My first visit to Shapes sat me in Megan's chair, and I had an agonizing task for her!
I was in the middle of transitioning from a bad relaxer and wanted to get all of the chemically treated hair removed once and for all! This was also my first Deva Cut, but I must admit - it was the best hair cut I've ever experienced! Megan was sweet and understanding, she explained the entire process and by the end of the hair cut (which only took an hour and a half, surprisngly - I'm used to being in salons for 5+ hours) I walked out feeling rejuvenated!
I was a changed woman!
I will continue to visit Megan and Shapes for my haircuts and hairstyles!

- I found out about Shapes several months ago...I'm a very poor actress, so I wanted to wait until I could better afford everything. I got impatient, though, and really needed a good cut! During that time, however, I looked at all the reviews on NaturallyCurly.com and Yelp to help me decide if this would be a good fit for me.
Megan was fantastic! Very nice and pleasant...she has naturally curly hair, as well, although it was straight when I went in today. She talked me through the Deva routine & products, explaining every step of the way what she was doing and how I can do it at home.
My curls look fantastic! Since living here in Colorado, my hair has definitely missed the body and springs it used to get from humidity. With this cut & way of styling, my curls are back! Soft, shiny, and spirally again!
I ended up buying all the products she used on me, and she also gave me a helpful informational how-to sheet, with detailed step-by-step instructions that the salon typed up.
Megan also told me to call her if I wasn't getting the same results at home. After she left, the receptionist told me that Megan was very serious about that and to not hesitate to call her if I needed help!
I also got my brows waxed and tinted. The usual aesthetician is out on maternity, so Richelle (the owner) did them. She did a great job--no complaints! I always worry that I'll end up looking like Joan Crawford when I get my brows done, but she did them just the way I asked for.
All in all, I great experience--and I'd NEVER been in a salon where there were so many Curly Girls! For fellow CGs in the area, I definitely recommend SHAPES, and ask for MEGAN!!!!!

- I tried to get an appointment with Julia McBride but she was not taking new clients. I decided to try Julia D. and it worked out very well. I'm a huge snob about my curly hair. I used to get my hair cut at Ouidad when I lived in NYC and I haven't found anyone to do myhair like that in CO. Julia was really informative. She explained what she was doing as she was doing it and my hair looked really great when she was done. I really recommend her. She was very nice and put up with my curl snobbery. :o)

- Will NOT go back. As a long time CG who has gone for years to Devachan in NYC to have my haircut, I can tell you that this person does NOT know how to give a good Devacut. I have lengthy, below shoulder-length hair and she cut pieces on my crown that were no longer than 3 inches! I couldn't believe it. So I have short pieces sticking out from my crown that do not blend in with my curls. And the rest of the general shaping of my hair is nothing to write home about. Very unimpressive and disappointing. So the search continues for another Deva-trained stylist or I will be flying back to NYC for my cuts.

- I couldn't have been happier. I was a first for her...as in, I was the first client she had ever had that was an adult who has never ever had anyone cut or color her hair. It's true, I've never stepped foot into a salon. The last time my hair was cut it was by my mother, sometime before I was 14. I have always felt as though I would never be able to sind someone that would actually know how to treat my hair. But Julia was so wonderful. She knew exactly what to do, and how to make me feel comfortable. I also have a very unusual natural color, with several layers of different natural highlights and lowlights. I'm unfortunetaly greying already and needed her to cover my grey. She was able to almost completely color match my hair...amazing.
I would highly recommend her and plan on going back!!

- I have lived all over the country (Chicago, Birmingham, Salt Lake) and had many, many cuts. Never have I seen my curls bounce and shine like they did after Julia was done with them. She's amazing and knows so much about curly hair. Typically, I have to try and "teach" the stylist how to style my hair, how much product to use, etc. I actually learned a few things this time. And, I didn't have to go home and immediately re-style my hair. Also, the color she gave me rocked! I had to wait a few weeks to get in, but it was totally worth it. When my sisters come to visit, I'll be making appointments for them as well.

- After transitioning for over a year and a half (I had gotten my hair straightened with the Japanese treatment for my birthday) I decided that enough was enough. I was tired of flat-ironing my hair for over two hours just to achieve a somewhat decent look. I was afraid I was damaging my roots and ruining my curls. So, after some minimal research I immediately found Shapes and scheduled an appointment (I skipped the Consultation because I was so desperate). Megan was my assigned stylist, and I would not have had it any other way! She was beautiful and soft spoken, and took the time to explain everything step by step. I now know how to properly use a diffuser and went home with some Deva products. Shapes, and Megan, work miracles there. She was patient and calm and I'm glad I decided to give this salon a try. Don't put off pampering yourself any longer, if you really want to feel better about your curly-do then embrace them and take a trip to Shapes.

- I was so excited, just to be let down. I loved the Curly Girl book, it changed my curls life! I did some research and was extremely excited to learn Shapes Salon offered the product line & Deva Cut!! I read reviews and Julia McBride had received the best but she was booked for 2 months. So I asked for the next Deva expert, Richelle had an opening in three weeks, since she was the owner I took it. It was the worst experience. Richelle was not friendly, which is fine if you can cut my curls. I asked to keep my length and for a cool shade of brown for the color, I specified no red. (I had had enough of the red tint from home hair color)Richelle was working on myself and another client at the same time. The girl helping her, worked on me about 70% of the time and she was not even Deva trained! When I was done what I had was a short flat head of RED tinted curls and a bill for $175!! I was so sick to my stomach because I looked horrible and paid $175 for it. I never really complain about bad cuts, I have grown used to them and just deal until they grow out but I also never pay that much for a cut and color. I would advise you do not book with Richelle for a Deva cut, which cost more because she hands you over to someone not even trained. Worse then, being unfriendly, she does not listen to what you want. I called the next day to fix the color and she was out of town but had someone else fix it at no cost. I will say that as I sat there, Julie had a few curly clients, one at a time, and they walked out looking great and happy. If you are going to this Salon I would wait to get in with Julie and AVOID Richelle!!

- I "cheated" on my regular stylist by seeing Mary, and I think I'm hooked. I cut my hair short a year ago and decided to wear it in a straight a-line. Super cute, but when I wore it curly I had a pyramid. I couldn't get my regular stylist, or any others I've seen, to shape it so I didn't look like a sphinx. Hooray for Mary! She sent the pyramid back to Egypt! Yes, my hair looks A LOT shorter, think Kerry Russel when she cut hers. It's cute though and SO MUCH better than before. She didn't push any of the products, just kindly told me how they worked and tried them out on me. The only "con", all stylists seem to use way too much product on my hair.

She asked me all kinds of questions about my hair and lifestyle so she could explain the styling options. She did NOT push product. She showed me how to use the clips. She gave me a handout on exactly what she had done and then added some further details. She also said I could come back for a refresher if I needed to, no charge. EVERYONE getting worked on in the salon had curly hair. I highly recommend Julia McBride and Shapes!!!!

- So, I finally gave in and called for an appointment and they were able to get me in the same day! (Very cool) The salon was easy to find on several major bus routes and parking was free, also very cool.
Megan is awesome, super friendly and she talked me through the entire process step-by-step explaining as we progressed along. She taught me how to use the hair clips and went into detail about drying so I could avoid the frizzies.
She didn't pressure me about buying products, but I did, and the total cost was less than I expected.
In the end my hair was totally transformed into a mass of happy, springy spirals like I have never experienced before.

- Julia McBride is the best!!! I have always struggled with my wavy hair. In the past, since I didn't know how to work with it, I often just straightened it or put it up to avoid dealing with it altogether. Then I went to Julia, who gave me the greatest cut that flattered my hair texture! She also taught me how to work with my hair and style it. Turns out that my hair isn't just wavy, but it can be beautifully curly now that I have the right cut and the right styling instructions!
I have been going to Julia for years now, and wouldn't go to anyone else! She has cut my hair both long and short, and it is always fabulous. Plus, the Deva method that she uses makes styling and upkeep easy and quick!

- I was the girl who got up at 5AM every day to blow out her hair. The one who was so happy to move from New Orleans to Colorado because...no humidity! The one who loved wilderness but hated camping because...no blowdryer. The one who couldn't figure out why my hair was brittle and lifeless after all those blowouts. The one who had a closet full of useless products so that her hair wouldn't look brittle and lifeless.
Now, I look in the mirror first thing in the morning and love, love, love my hair, just as it is, fresh out of bed!
I never use my blowdryer, and only thoroughly wet my hair in the shower about twice a week now--and get 10 times more complements on my hair than I ever did before. My hair is healthier, and I totally love it for what it is naturally. Well, I will *always* play with the color; that's why God created foils, peroxide and pigment... (A HUGE plus, Richelle's color sense is masterful; I used to have to go to two different stylists for cutting and color work.)
Richelle doesn't impose a style your curly hair; she cuts it to release its own style. So, truthfully, after my first cut, I felt like one of the previous reviewers--ugh, what's the deal, where's my hairstyle?
Since I'd never had my hair cut the right way (just had it cut wet, and then blown straight or wavy)I didn't quite "get" the cutting/styling method right away. But, after a few days of using the Deva products and regimen Richelle introduced me to, my hair had a beautiful logic all of its own.
Richelle is the salon owner, and she is busy and sometimes I suppose she could seem pre-occupied. I've had three appointments with her and found her to be a good listener and cordial. Sometimes she's even pretty chatty. Whatever. I don't go to a salon for friendship; I go to get a great head of hair.
Shapes is the place for me; I'll never go elsewhere.

When I got to the salon, I was immediately taken aback -- all of the stylists were sporting stick-straight hair! - I am new to the Denver area, so I called several salons to decide who to go to. I asked how they cut their hair (wet or dry) and how much of their clientele was curly. When I called Shapes, their curly stylists had a good amount of curly clientele, and because they are Deva-trained, they cut hair dry. This is exactly what I was looking for - and my previous stylist cut in the Deva style - so I made an appointment.
Jessica was great - she asked me about what I wanted, what I had not liked about my haircuts in the past, and she helped me find the right shade of brown to dye my hair (I'm usually a dark blond and wanted to try brown for the 1st time). I loved the cut and the color, and I left the salon super happy with my hair. Then, after a couple days I decided my hair was a little longer than I wanted (I had told her that in the past, the biggest problem I had had with haircuts was my hair was too short) so I called back, and made another appointment to shorten my hair some more. She did, and now it's the perfect length. I highly recommend Jessica, and Shapes salon to anyone with curly hair.
