Ok, now I wont make a review every time I get a haircut done by Karlene because this is the second time i write about her...but i can't help myself!!!!!!!
So i just came back from getting my 2nd hair cut and OMG!!! I went for a shorter, bouncier look (medium cut) and i'm not kidding, A GUY WHISTLED AT ME AT THE BUS STOP!!! LOL! My hair got back it's vitality, Karlene, you are fabulous... what would I do without you?!!!!
Ladies... I dont know what to say more than this (I came back around an hour ago to the office and i'm still looking at myself in the mirror at my desk, hee hee)but Karlene made me love my curls again, more than ever!!!!
Hey ladies! Ok, now nobody is more paranoid then me when it comes to getting a haircut. I didn't get a good cut in years, only having my ends trimmed, because as many curly women, people never understood my curls and always ended up messing up my hair.
So one good day I woke up and told myself "Enough looking like a mop, go get your hair cut!!!"
So after seeing the reviews on this this forum, I decided to go to Chiggy's and booked an appointment with Karlene.
This lady is the best!!!!!! She made me fall in love with my curls again and I finally trust somebody with my hair! She's so nice, friendly and super competent, she knows what she's doing. She asked me what type of results I wanted (more bouncy, curly curls, or to keep them longer with less volume)I opted for curly curls, so she gave me a nice layered cut. My hair is still long, but it's much more lively!!
She showed me step by step how to diffuse my hair and create the same look she gave me. And guess what? It's amazing! I can do it on my own!! Hihi!I have the "just out of the hairdresser look" every single morning!
I bought the no Poo conditioning cleanser and the low poo shampoo and the products work amazing. My hair is nice and moist, and no more frizz for me.
While she was fixing my hair, she was telling me "Oh, you're going to love your cut!!!!", and we were giggling with enthusiasm, lol. And she was right!!!!
Karlene, thank you so much for being such an honest and great person! You are by far, the best hairdresser I have ever had and I will always come back to you!!
Asmahan
After 15 years of many botched haircuts, ill-advised chemical treatments and stylists that didn't care, I finally found Chiggy's Touch (after a bad experience at Curl Ambassadors - who know *nothing* about working with kinky hair like mine). I went in to see Kim and like many others, was very embarassed at the state of my hair. Kim reassured me that all would be well and took the time to advise me of my options. Seeing that I was VERY hesistant to go through with any other cut or style, advised me to think on it for a week and come back. After making the decision to go through with it (largely in part because of the no pressure from anyone at Chiggy's), Kim cut my shoulder-length curls to above my ears and I've never been happier. She took the time to show me how to style and care for my hair at home with minimal product, and my hair has never looked better or been easier to take care of! I'm excited to go back and try the colour that Kim is known for.
Would recommed this salon and their stylists ten times over! Run...don't walk! to Chiggy's.
I have been going to Karleen since 2008 and she does an amazing job on my hair. She always does exactly what I ask and only recommends that I try new techniques when she knows they will benefit my hair. She's a great stylist and she knows how to treat and manage my hair. The salon, in general, has a great atmosphere and I really enjoy being one of their clients. I never have to wait and they even offer their clients tea, coffee and/or juice! I will continue to be a loyal customer for years to come.
I have been going to Chiggy's for just under a year and I have seen great results in my hair. It is healthy and my curls are looking so much better. Karlene has done a great job :) I enjoy the atmoshpere of the salon whenever I am there and the service is great.
Thanks Karlene.
Having been the victim of bad hairstylists from other salons in the past, I was more than a little hesitant to break my lengthy hiatus from hair stylists in general. However, the need to do something with my virgin hair for an upcoming important event overrode my hesitancy, and I found myself at Chiggy's (upon the recommendation of a cousin).
I arrived very late for my scheduled appointment with Kim, and Karlene graciously offered to do my hair for me. I gratefully accepted and left a couple of hours later very satisfied with the result. I have been back every week since this first appointment about a month ago, and thus far, I am a loyal and happy client. (The call from Karlene a few days after my first appointment to get my feedback was just the icing on the cake.)
While I remain the proverbial injured child who warily gets back on the horse, my experiences with Karlene thus far have been positive, and I look forward to a hopefully long relationship with Chiggy's Touch.
Thanks Karlene.
I had shoulder length hair when I went in. My hair is not thick and was in a bob shape which I disliked. I told them I didn't want to lose any lenght and I didn't want a bob shape and that I wanted to grow my hair out just past my shoulders. So what happed next- the stylist cut all my hair off. I have very fine curly hair, and aparently she couldn't tell how curly it was because my hair had grown to one length eventhought I showed her the tight curls at the back of my hair. She was just hacking away randomly at my hair, making it worse and worse. I just knew this was going to be bad and she was totally oblivious. Even the was she was trying to style my hair was horrible, you could see my scalp b/c of all the stuff in my hair and it was crispy and gross. Finally I started to cry, I had told Patience who came over at one point I was scared it was too short, she didn't stop anything. After it was all to late and my hair was cut ABOVE MY EARS Patience said she would fix it by putting extensions it it. I first agreed to come back but after getting home and actually seeing my jacked up hair cut that looked like a weed wacker cut it, long on one side, bits and pieces just randomly cut, long pieces left here and there I absolutely didn't go back. When I called to cancel, they pretended I didn't call. I was very clear about why I wasn't coming back in, they called me to confirm my appointment eventhough I cancelled! and when I asked them if they got my cancellation message they said yes. So in my opinion they just play games with people, and their hair- totally not cool. I wouldn't go back to this place for a billion dollars. If you want to loose all of your hair and look like you messed with a lawn mower, got there.. otherwise, go some place else... sad but true.. my hair is a train wreck.. I wish it wasn't so, but this is going to take months to grow out so I can get it cut like a normal cut. Shame on these people!
Great personality. Taught me a lot about how to manage my curly hair at home. My hair is in much better condition from learning about the low-poo to no-poo techniques. Only two minor concerns. (1) She consistently cuts my hair shorter than I would like, even though I tell her I am trying to grow it out. (2) Her hair cut and styling techniques create a great shape to my overall hair but do not bring out much of my natural curl pattern
I have just one word to use when describing Karlene and the service that I get every time I go to Chiggy's: AMAZING!!!! I always had problem curls; shapeless, tight, dry and generally unhealthy. After meeting Karlene for the first time during my consult, I knew that I was in good hands. Karlene treated my hair with great conditioners, and then she relaxed it and put in extensions. My hair looks fantastic, everywhere I go people don't recognize me, I look like a completely different person and I LOVE MY HAIR!!! Thank you Karlene, you are my saviour, I look great and it's all thanks to you!!! YOU ROCK!!!!
Where do I even start to describe my salon experience with Karlene? She takes it to the next level - she is AMAZING!!!
Knowledgeable and warm, the woman knows her way around cruly hair. She's fabulous, and will tell you exactly what you're doing right and wrong with styling your hair for the look you want to achieve. She took time with me to show me tricks for getting volume at the roots, and introduced me to this awesome line called Morrocan Oil. It's not heavy - it separates my curls without making them crunchy, and it smells like sunshine. Karlene took the time to explain how to use the products properly - even what towel to use so that you don't waste your products. And she gives a scalp massage like nobody else in the world, EVER!!!
What can I say about Karlene? She's the perfect stylist in every way and you would be lucky to see her for an appointment.
To say that I was unhappy with Chiggy's Touch is an understatement. I basically went there because of reviews from this site. Well, I've never been more disappointed with a salon in my life. When I went in there, I had BSL hair, I left the salon with shoulder length hair and I only went there for a 2 inch trim. But that isn't even the worst of it,I really didn't need this uneven, mushroom haircut. I could have done that by myself without spending $70 dollars. It's going to take me a year to recover from this. I definetly won't be going back to this salon.
I had a consultation and cut done by Kim. I'm a person that is very weary of trying new stylists, since most like to cut off a good amount of your hair. She was amazing, very helpful, informative and made me feel very comfortable. I learned so much about how to style my hair. She did an excellent job leaving me with the fullness I was looking for. I'm happy I've discovered Chiggy's and Kim!
Went to the salon with some hesitation from the last review, but with a combination of desperation and the good reviews i decided to go. I went for a hair cut but ended up getting the full deal. patience did my consultation and did what i found unique to them, she explain in detail what she was going to do and walk me through how i need to maintain. She actually gave me a one on one that was personal and her passion just filled the air. One thing i noticed was how the entire team was good at what they do because i later had a charming girl by the name of Kim that helped process my color. OOOHHH i have found a salon for life. When i was there they offered me coffee and the service was all about me. Good Job girls, keep it up. Curly girls out there if you still have an issue with finding a stylist you need to go to chiggy's like the previous writer don't run, walk there...
This review is for my appt. that I had Feb./08. After reading all the rave reviews on this site and Chiggy's impressive website I decided to book an appt. with the infamous Patience (I emphasized when booking that I wanted Patience). When I arrived for my 10am appt., I was warmly greeted by Kim and shown to her chair. Kim spent a lot of time chatting about hair, products and my routine etc. She cut my hair beautifully and I even encouraged her to go shorter b/c I was so happy with what she was doing BUT she told me it was not a cut that I could wear my hair straight!! Kim cut it dry and put deep layers in, which initially looked great, but after a couple of weeks, was clearly uneven. I left the salon by 11:30 (I have NEVER spent so little time in a salon-AMAZING!!). My experience at Chiggy's was great but I will not go back due to the fact that they appear to cut with no real direction (how could I not be able to wear it straight!!), it wasn't even, and finally no explanation as to why Patience was not there. Not professional enough in my opinion for a $75.00 hairdo. I am way too critical when it comes to my hair and while Kim was very nice and did a pretty good job, I booked with Patience. I am going to try Curl Ambassadors or the CHS next. By the way, I went to Chiggy's Touch b/c my reg. stylist was on mat. leave and has since fixed the cut Kim gave me and it now looks good curly and straight!
I was less lucky with Patience than the other reviewers. On the basis of the rave reviews on this website, I went to Patience for a cut and color. At the time I had shoulder length hair and wanted a trim. I showed her a picture from her website of a cut she had probably done herself. After agreeing that she "this length is good," Patience cut about four inches off my hair, giving me the short poufy cut I've received all too often, with very short layers. It has taken most of a year to recover from "Chiggy's Touch." She then had the nerve to suggest extensions! The color was nice, though.
I just relocated back to Toronto and came to this site to find a recommendation for someone who knows how to cut naturally curly hair. Like the rest of you, I've had my share of nightmare haircuts and salons where the receptionist promises that ""everyone here is an expert at cutting naturally curly hair"". I read about Patience at Chiggy's Touch, and I booked an appointment immedietely. I was so impressed with her! First, she is such a sweet and gentle person. She really makes you feel at home in her salon- despite the downtown location, it is not at all intimidating to be there. Second, she really knows her stuff. I walked out of there with the best haircut I've had in ten years or more. I walked in really embarassed as I had colored my hair much too darkly- plus, it had gotten all out of shape from bad haircuts. Despite having a full day, Patience fit me in and offered to fix my colour once she realized how self-conscious I was about it. She gave me an excellent haircut that really defined my curls and suited my face. This is the first time in many years that I haven't had to clip my hair up part way to make it look ok- what a relief! In addition, Patience took a lot of time with me and explained exactly how to style my hair at home. She had me watch in a mirror while she showed me all kinds of tricks and tips, and even showed me the best way to use a diffuser. I have never had a hairstylist take this much care with me and really seem to want to help me feel good about how I look. I have nothing but the highest recommendation for this salon! My husband was SO happy when i got home. I should also mention that Salynn (not sure if i spelled that right!) is the hair colorist and she did a beautiful job!! and was also very nice and welcoming. Thank you so much to both of you! I am more grateful than I could ever say. Run, don't walk, to Chiggy's Touch!!!
For the longest time i always had my hair straight.Kim did an awesome job. The good thing about it is that the whole salon is good at what they do...Go CHeck It Out. I had forgotten how beutiful my curls looked. Kim not only went through the consultation in detail with me but gave me tips on how to maintain my hair. I felt at home the minute i stepped in the salon. These guys are good. Go check out Kim she made me fall inlove with my hair again.

I have NEVER walked out of the salon so happy! Chiggy's Touch is the new salon of Patience, where she once worked at Curl Ambassador. Patience was so attentive to my curls, and took great pride in teaching me how to style my curls. For years I have gone to salons and stylists have ended up blow drying my hair straight, thinking it's a treat. Finally I have a cut that emphasizes my curls -- never in my life has my hair been so curly! Some people even asked if I used a curling iron to get my ringlets (and my hair is the type of hair that hangs limply from my head if air dried, with a slight wave).
Thank you Patience for such an incredible cut! I'm hooked for life!

I went to see Sarah by both the recommendation of the site and a friend. She did an awsome job. It was the first time anyone paid attention to the details of my curly hair. She selectively removed alot of the bulk, leaving my hair lighter, softer, with a great shape and more curl definition. It was also the first time I didn't have to go home to shower and redo my hair!Excellent job.

I just got a fabulous cut and colour from Patience earlier this week. Even more important, it still looks great when I do it myself (and it was easy)! They carry some great hair product ("Mixed chicks"). Usually no one notices when I get my hair cut (probably because it ends up in a pony tail soon after) but this week I've been getting tons of compliments. On top of it, Patience is very cool and interesting to talk to.

I visited Patience when I thought that no one else could help me. I had been given a razor cut 6 months ago after having my baby boy. When I asked the hairdresser why I'd loss my curl she claimed that the pregnancy hormones were responsible. Gone were my wash and go curls. After visiting Patience she gave me a short and sassy do to bring back those curls and I feel like a yummy mummy even if I can't spend a lot of time on my hair. She suggested a leave in conditioner that enables me to finish up all the left over products that have been sitting under my sink - so I didn't have to spend a great deal on more products, which I really appreciate. We're a team now and I'm looking forward to my hair growing out fun and curly once again. Go visit Patience!! BTW - Sarah her colour technician is incredible as well.

I have mixed (black & white ) curly hair and I hadn't gotten my hair cut in years. I have usually had bad experiences with hairdressers in the past as most hair dressers do not understand curly hair. However I decided to give Patience a try as i have heard a lot of good things about her. Patience made me feel very comfortable and at ease. All of the staff at Chiggys are VERY friendly. Prior to my visit I had very flat, damaged, thin and dull looking hair. Patience added shine and body to my hair and she cut off all the dead ends without loosing the length as i had asked. She also gave me a long layered cut that looks good both curly and straight. My hair now feels a lot more healthy, thick and smooth ... i cant stop touching it , It hasn't felt like this in years! ..... i love the products that she used for my hair as they were very light and did not weight my hair down at all . Patience also explained how to take care of my hair and what products to use to keep it healthy looking and strong. I am very happy with the results and i would strongly recommend her to anyone who is "afraid of hairdressers", as she is awesome !

Best cut and color I've ever had! Patience totally knows her stuff. I absolutely loved the color, very rich and vibrant.(has not faded one bit!)She loves the pureology line which is 100 percent Vegan, sulfate free and color safe. I look forward to years of health looking hair now instead of split ends and frizz. Patience is also a very nice person and makes you feel like you've known her your whole life. Patience gave me the best hair cut color and product recommendations I have ever recieved. At the end she also gave me a fabulous ready to go out , "curly do" AT curl ambassadors they have a variety of hair products for various hair types. The color Patience used made my curls bouncy and shiny and did not dry my hair out. The mixed chicks and jessicurl products she used in my hair were GREAT! My hair was frizz free and not stiff or crunchy just bouncy shiny healthy ringletts. As a bonus while i was waiting to get my color processed the staff came by with freshly baked cake and tea. The staff makes you feel at home. The best part was everything Patience did to my hair she walked me through the process so i can create the same, "Curly Do" at home. Patience even called a couple weeks later to ask how i was liking my hair and if i had any questions. CURL AMBASSADORS IS THE BEST CURLY HAIR SALON WITH THE BEST HAIR STYLIST IN TORONTO!!!!!
