It has been a long time since I have found someone who can cut my hair to my liking. In the past every time I found someone they seemed to move away or something. I just loved how Jill cut and styled my hair. I live on Long Island so I have to travel to get there but I feel it is worth it. They definitely have me as a customer for life.

I received many complements after my visit to Luvena Leslie. I have various textures of hair from 3b-4a so I was really psyched to have Luvena do my hair. They used Deva Curl which made my curls pop. She colored my hair which is 75% gray and I really like the way it turned out. My next appt will be to have a haircut and styling lesson. Can't wait. I agree with someone else's comment that their results were hard for me to reproduce.

The Luvena Leslie salon is the best. I have traveled all over the place to get my hair done (NYC, DC) and I was extremely over joyed with the service I received. I arrived to my appointment on-time and I was sat in the chair to have my hair trimmed and then I get a color rinse and style. I am in and out in 2 hours which is a miracle when you compare going to a braiding salon or other hair salons. My hair is a 4a so I find that my hair does better with the Kinky Curly hair line products I have tried the Mixed Chicks line at the salon. When Luvena does my hair it looks good but I can’t get it to look the same at home. I have found a new hairstylist that I will travel for if I move from the state.

I took my curly haired daughter to Luvena because my older straight haired daughter goes to school right down the street and the idea of a salon that deals with curly hair intrigued me. She was very nice and talkative, my daughters hair looked so nice and each curl was seperate and bouncy. I wish I had asked what she did so I could reproduce the look at home. But after a horrible haircut a year ago at the mall salon, this haircut was straight from heaven. Going to make her next appt right now!

I scheduled an appointment for my daughter who is African American and Hispanic with extremely tight curly hair. She is growing out some previously damaged hair from a wash and set from a Dominican salon. I brought her with her hair parted and sectioned because I thought it would be easier to comb through. Luvena informed me that what was going to be an appointment was now a consultation because she cuts hair in its natural state, (hair out), I completely understand that, but the receptionist who I spoke to and knew I was a new client should have informed me. I told her that I knew a significant amount of hair would have to be cut to remove the damaged hair but that I was hoping to possibly do it in phases so that the cut wouldn't be so drastic because both my daughter and I were worried about the length. She basically said that in order for her to work with her hair most of it would have to come off and told me of a client who had a similar experience and she gave her a buzz cut. That definitely was not going to happen with my daughter. She said to me a couple of times that maybe she isn't the person who should do her hair, why wouldn't she, isn't she suppose to be a curly hair specialist? I explained to her that I was looking to strengthen her hair, not use heat and find alternatives ways to style her hair. Again she mentioned she probably isn't the person who should be doing her hair. I know she wasn't interested in having me back because she didn't actually ask me to schedule another appointment at the front desk; I could call if I wanted too. Not to mention my appointment was for 11:30 and during that time she finished one client, cut another ones hair and put her under dryer. A good hairdresser would help nurture one's hair back to a good state while taking the clients concern's into consideration, no matter how long it would take. She didn't even suggest products or any type of advice. I refuse to chop my daughters’ hair so she can have a clean slate. I feel like Luvena took one look at us and decided she wasn't going to work with her hair. I thought her delivery of information was tacky and felt like she shunned me. She might work with all "curly" hair types, but it's evident from the pictures of her work on her website that there is one common denominator and clearly she has a preference.

When I first when to Luvena, my hair was a mess. I had lots of split ends and my curls were dry and dull. Then I went to her salon and she knew exactly what to do. After she cut my hair, it was light and my curls were beautiful and glossy. It's a month later and though my hair grew, the shape and style have stayed and it's still great. I definitely recommend her!

I dealt with bad hair cuts for years (too short in front, not short enough in back, too much off the top not enough off the bottom...) but now that I found Luvena I know I will never have to worry about a bad haircut again. You can immediately tell that she knows how to cut curly hair. She is the first hair dresser ever who hasn't soaked my hair with a water spray or washed it before cutting, which is SUCH a relief! She explains exactly what she's doing and showed me how to do my hair at home. I had a lot of questions and she was happy to answer all of them. I am due for another haircut in a couple weeks and I can't wait to go back.

Luvena is FANTASTIC. Before her, I had never gotten a good haircut--stylists always cut my curls too short, and they ended up frizzy and out of control. Luvena cut my hair dry, and by the end of my appointment, my hair was soft, with beautifully defined curls. She listens to what you want and she's super creative . She'll also show you exactly what she did so you can replicate it at home. After going to her, people have come up to me on the street to ask where I got my hair cut. Definitely go to this salon!

My first experience at this salon was a pleasant one. Tabitha cut my hair. I wasn't sure how it was going to come out because all my previous stylists washed my hair before cutting it. They would cut it wet. Not here. For curly hair, they cut it first when it is dry. To my surprise, it was cut beautifully. Tabitha is professional and knowledgeable when it comes to hair. She did a great job and she is super sweet to talk to. I had Tabitha straighten my curls because I can't do it myself. So, it was a treat to have it starightened and she did an awesome job doing that. After leaving it staright for several days, I finally washed it and my curls were back! They were healthy and nicely shaped. Luvena colred my hair and it was one of the best colors I ever got. It matched my natural color very nicely. I will go back there agian.

Love, love, love my new hair cut! Luvena gave me the cut I've been asking for since I first discovered the Deva cutting technique. Bigger is better for me. Love lots of volume on top with springy, little curls that fall across my forehead. Luvena totally got what I was saying. My 3b curls responded just right to the cut - lots of volume but lots of definition too. Three weeks later I can say I'm loving this cut more and more. A sign of a good cut is that you don't need a ton of product and you don't have to touch it a lot to get it to look the way you want. I also had the opportunity to try Curling Custard and Knot Today conditioner by Kinky-Curly, a curly hair product line that doesn't contain any toxins, super important for me as I just spent a ton removing all the bad stuff from my body. It has just the right amount of hold for my curl type w/o getting crunchy or flakey. Looking forward to my next cut... though it might be a few months b/c the cut is so good!

Got a haircut a few months ago...Told Luvena I trusted her completely and to go crazy with fun layers and dimensions...when I left the salon, I LOVE it but a few days later it hit me how short it was. I usually wear my hair long so I was nervous and anxious for a couple of weeks. The layers were amazing and the hair was healthy, just not sure if the length was right for my face shape. A few weeks later and the layers have stayed in tact and I absolutely LOVE the look!!! She cut it in a way that even grown out it looks amazing. I've gotten compliments from both close friends and strangers since the haircut- even at its different lengths. Can't wait to get a similar cut...just have to be patient for the first few weeks while the hair grows into itself. Excited for another appointment soon!!!

I had really long unkempt hair after not having a hair cut in more than 4 years. (The reason for no previous haircuts was a combination of lack of funds and distrust of most stylists.) She cut off about 9 inches in total and gave me a really cute haircut! I've gotten tons of compliments on it and it's so easy to care for. Even when I don't use any product, there is minimal frizz. I was in a tropical climate for about a month since the haircut and even there I didn't need to use any product for an every-day style. YAY! I'll definitely be going back soon!

I just signed up in this naturallycurly.com like yesterday for the first time. After an exhaustive search for a good stylist, and thanks to so many good reviews about Luvena in this site, I decided to take the chance. Today was the first time that Luvena was cutting hair in West hartford, where I live so I though: what are the chances that she will have an opening, right? but I called her, and her super awesome sister got me in same day!!!! My hair type is kind of a mix between 3b-3c, different pattern in random places :( for this, I think is such a challenge to find someone that can actually give me a haircut, that can make sense to my hair. All I can say, is that without going broke, Luvena did such a divine job with my hair, reshaped it without losing much length, it was a true masterpiece by the time she was done, I'm not joking she is an artist!! and I just fell in love all over again with my curly hair, THANK YOU LUVENA, SEE YOU IN 8-12 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Normally I would not write a review however I had to say my peace. I went to this salon based on the reveiws on this board. A review mentioned that she does ALL types of hair. I recommend that before someone says this they check with the stylist first before posting. First I called and made an appointment explained what I wanted --wash deep condition, straight then cut to shape my hair. I specfically asked the receptionist if Luvena has worked with afro natual hair or african american hair (i.e. 4b/c) She asked me if I had curls? (really? )Anyway I told her yes and explained that my curls were very very tightly coiled. However when went you see the definition. Because I observe the Sabbath which means from sunset friday to sunset saturday I do not do anything (tthink Jewish). Anyway come to find out my schedule didnt match hers and it didn't work out. No problem thanked her and hung up. Well I get a call the next day saying that luvena was willing to do my hair after sunset saturday---SOOOO excited! It is nice that she sends an email to confirm the appointment with her address because again this was my first time and I live about 40 min away, had to pull out the GPS. Saturday comes and I can wait to get to the salon. I get there about 5 min late because Parking is not the best in that area. I only wait about 10 min since she had a client anyway. So she sits me in a chair and starts finger my twist (mind you Iknow I had to take them out) She give me this look and says I'm not sure I can straighten you hair? Errrrrr excuse me. She says that her flat iron will not get hot enough to make it straight, unless she uses a lot of heat. I'm like um my hair has been straight before and did not require a lot of heat. She says that its not going to work. I look at her like ummm yea. I just drove 40 min to get here. So I ask what can you do. She says she can wash it deep condition and sit me under the dryer. Then she says have you tried the Dominicans???? Um they use way too much heat. I said thank you and marched right out there....doing research to find a salon--15 minuets $0, talking on the phone with a receptionist during my lunch hour ---15 min $0 , driving 40 minuets paying the meter just to walk in and walk out---NEVER AGAIN!

She really understands the needs of curly girls of all stripes! From the kinkiest curls to the softer wavy variety, she is able to style the hair to suit the needs and lifestyle of the client. And she won't do something she thinks is really wrong for you! By heeding her counsel, I've missed making some grievous hairstyle errors. If you want a great curly cut, see Luvena. She rocks!

I have had my hair done by a personal family friend who is a hair dresser and by the world famous Oidad salon, but this is honestly the best cut i've had. When I first had it done at Oidad, they made it seem so difficult to do on my own at home. They put a lot of different products in my hair and i went home with close to $200 hundred dollars worth of them. At this salon, not only did I get the cut i wanted, but when I watched Luvena do my hair, I knew that I could do it just like that at home. I even bought the shampoo and conditioner she used because it seemed to work, and it works for me very well here at home. Cut and products, a whole lot less expensive than Oidad, and a whole lot better.

Definitely loved everything about Luvena and my hair. As she says, "The bigger, the better!" when it comes to hair. My hair was so big and so FABULOUS! I don't know how many pictures I took of it, haha. But she was great to talk to, unlike anyone who has ever done my hair. And I love the leave-in she put in, I had to buy some! My hair looked wonderful, definitely worth the wait. :)

I just had my first appointment with Luvena. She is so awesome! I had 2 cuts previously from different stylists (one was a stylist that I had been with for 10+ years when I was relaxed and the other came highly recommended). I was not happy with either (and I'm a person that's pretty easy to please). My cut now looks great. Luvena is so pleasant. I'm sure I'll be back

Luvena gave me an awesome cut! I haven't had a haircut in a long time so I was afraid that I would lose a lot of length, but she was able to keep it long and still give me tons of shape. The styling methods they showed me work wonders and I'm seeing even more curl than I knew I had. I will definitely go back for my next cut :)

I'm a 2b. I've gone to Luvena twice now for Deva cuts. I'd never had my hair cut dry before, and I almost never get a cut I'm happy with from a stylist (probably because they don't know how to cut way hair). Luvena knew I was nervous, and was very calm, friendly, and considerate of my anxiety. She made me feel very comfortable and explained everything she was doing .Both times my hair looked great when she styled it, but after the first cut I had some trouble replicating what she did. At my second appointment she showed me how to scrunch in gel (do a section of hair at a time, while sopping wet) and taught me how to clip properly- now I get much more consistent results (as consistent as you can get with wavy hair). Each time I come she greets me with a smile and leaves me with a hug. I've gotten several compliments on my hair since I've been going to Luvena, and I haven't touched the curling iron or flat iron since my first appointment with her 3 months ago! I've already turned a co-worker onto Luvena!

Luvena did a wonderful job with my curly cut and highlight in September. I loved how it came out so much that I immediately took pictures of myself and sent them to my husband! I also liked how they explained how to style my hair so I can re-create it at home. It was definitely worth the drive from central CT and I'm looking forward to my next appointment!

I was TERRIFIED going in. It's actually been ten years since I went to a hair salon, I've just had friends trim off my dead ends once or twice a year and that was it. I was used to cuts for straight hair where they would blowdry me out and once I went home and shampoo-ed the cut would never look the same again. Luvena was very understanding of my attachment to my long hair, and managed to give me beautiful shape and layers without losing more than a couple inches. She also taught me how to treat my curls so they have definition and less frizz, and more than a week after the cut it's still looking amazing everyday. I couldn't be happier!

I've been to Luvena twice, with a year break in between. She does a fantastic job. The first time I wanted to maintain length but shape my cut, and that's what she did. This last time I wanted it shorter and shaped, and it looks great. The prices are reasonable as well ($45 for my cut with Luvena). Plus, no one pushes you to buy products which makes me happy because I'm all set with the products I already use.

I had my first "curly cut" last week and could not be happier. I drove to New Haven from the Hartford area just for this salon! Luvena was very attentive and understanding of my needs for a professional style that embraced my curls. She really took the time to get to know me and my hair and I was grinning my entire way home! I have been using the recommended products since and my hair looks and feels fabulous. Unlike other salons I have been to, I was not pushed to purchase anything at all!

Since I was 16 I've been going to the same hair stylist to get my hair washed and set. I recently decided that I just wanted to be all natural and I knew my hair stylist wouldn't understand. My younger sister and three of my friends go to Luvena. So, I decided that now was the time to go to her. I absolutely love my hair cut. I had her cut all of my relaxer out and she cut my hair in to a beautiful style. I plan to keep going back to her. The salon has a great atmosphere and I've never seen anyone leave with a bad hair cut. I recommend this salon and Luvena in a heartbeat.

Hands down the best haircut I have ever received! Luvena asked me what I wanted and made suggestions. The DevaCurl product demonstration was so helpful as well! The product is wonderful and the cut is even better. My curls have never looked this healthy, touchable, and full of bounce. I have heavy hair so I usually get the crunchy look in an attempt to have all day hold. I also have all day humidity control now! I LOVE this cut and the DevaCurl products!
