- I must say that this was an experience! A great one! I have not been to a hair stylist in over 8 years - I have never left a salon happy until today. Melissa did an exceptional job and the Devacurl products are wonderful. I would recommend her and the products to any "curly girl". My hair was very long and I must admit I was actually having a pretty good hair day when I went in, but I stuck to my plan to get a lot chopped off. My hair now is just slightly above my shoulders with a side swipe bang - that I love - it was so worth it! I am very happy:)

- Melissa does an amazing job at cutting curly hair. My cut surpassed all my expectations. I learned I was a curly not a wavy. I also learn some new techniques for getting conditioner into my hair. I have been a modified cg for a long time but I am going back to full cg now. I think once Melissa cuts your hair it would be hard to ever be happy going back to a non curly haircut.

- I had my hair cut about three weeks ago by Melissa and have to say she did an amazing job! I will certainly be going back to her. I have been practicing the curly girl hair care routine for several years now and use Devachan products. We were immediately on the same page. Melissa is very friendly, easy to chat with, and interested in making sure your experience is good and you are satisfied with your cut. I'm so glad to find stylists who use Massey's method of cutting curly hair. I had been going to Marni Foster who is also amazing (Salon Spargo), but the location in Farmington Hills is inconvenient for me so I'm very happy to find another excellent stylists closer to home.

- I can't even tell you how great my experience was with Melissa! For starters, she is very friendly and easy to talk to. She also has AMAZING curls. It is always a good sign when your stylist has great hair.
When it came to the actual hair cut, I was extremely happy with the results. I asked to get about 5 inches cut off my hair (my hair is now a bit above BSL). Melissa spent a lot of time creating layers so my curls would fall nicely. The new cut is fabulous - my hair is lighter and curlier than it was before!
Melissa is an expert about curly hair products (plus, her knowledge is in no way limited to Deva products). I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable about products/ingredients as I have been CG for about 2 years, but I learned a ton from Melissa. I absolutely love learning about new products, so this aspect of the Deva cut was really fun for me. She sent me home with a list of products that she thought would help me get the maximum amount of curl out of my wavy-curly hair. She also gave me various other tips like how to better distribute product into my long hair, how to properly clip my roots for volume (she even sent me home with a container of clips!), and techniques for getting wearable 2nd and 3rd day hair.
My appointment was a week ago, and I have since been using the new products she suggested, along with some of my HG ones, and my hair looks SO AMAZING! I felt the need to write this review so everyone knows how great my experience was - I'm actually shocked that she doesn't have more reviews on here. I would definitely recommend Melissa to any curly girl!

- I went to Anthony's for the first time because I saw all the great reviews of Melissa. When I got there, I was immediately taken aback because several employees were hanging around at the desk and not one of them asked my name or tried to help me. Instead, they were trying to decide on what to order for lunch. Very unprofessional. Eventually a man walked to the desk and saw what was happening. I believe it may have been the owner. Anyhow, he took my name and Melissa came out to see me.
Melissa is very nice and very knowledgeable--if you have "normal" curly hair. By normal, I mean hair that is dry and difficult to manage. I have very fine, soft, curly hair. I immediately told Melissa I had no issues with frizz or dryness. I showed her the products I was using and told her I was having issues with my hair being flat and over-conditioned. I told her I wanted a cut and product recommendations that would help with volume. She agreed that I was over-conditioned and had a strange/different hair type. I thought things were sounding promising. However, I left disappointed.
Now, don't get me wrong. Melissa is very nice, takes her time, and gives lots of suggestions. Unfortunately, I felt the suggestions were one size fits all. She put products on my already over-conditioned hair that made my hair flatter and more over-conditioned. She clearly used the same products on each curly that walked in the door. It didn't matter that my hair is so fine that I really couldn't handle the amount or type of products.
The cut was ok. Not bad, but I've definitely had better. With all the hype about deva cuts, I expected a bit of a transformation. I suppose my expectations were too high. In any event, I won't be back. Melissa just wasn't for me.

- I was very suprised, I didn't think I'd see an immediate change once I went but it was very obvious. I have super curly hair but alot of it has been damaged by pressing combs and blow-driers. Everyone there was very friendly something I didn't really expect. Melissa gives amazing tips and the process is quick and easy. I wasn't even in the chair for 2 hours like I though I'd be.

- I have fine 2b hair (normal porosity and elasticity). I had my hair cut on April 5th 2012, and just a few short weeks later I discovered my waves. I went to Melissa just to fine-tune my cut to cooperate with my new wavy style. Melissa is a curly girl herself, and was doing curly-cuts long before she went to Deva school. She has been active on NC.com from its infancy and is in tune with the latest curly girl product and technique buzz. She knows her stuff and she's very good at what she does. She didn't just cut my hair, but she gave me loads of styling and care tips. Melissa is simply fabulous. If you live in MI/IN/OH you must make the trek to see her! She's worth the trip. A+++

- Melissa was fantastic! I have wavy, 2a/b hair and wanted to make the most of it, so I went to visit her. She was extremely knowledgable about the CG method and how to make the most out of the little curls that I have. She went over washing technique with me, and showed me which products to use and exactly how much. It was fantastic. I would highly recommened her to any curlies or wavies in the MI area. I drove 2 hours for my cut and I will be doing it again :)

- Took my daughter and myself to Melissa for a DevaCut and style, I had spoken with Melissa for 2 weeks via NC & FB about what we were hoping to get out of visit, She was very friendly and interested in all I had to say. When we finally met I felt like I had known her forever. She took her time and explained (to myself and my daughter 15) every step, even gave my daughter a mirror to watch the "wash" process. I am trying to grow my hair long and asked for no length taken off for the cut, which for the first time in my salon expirence lifetime was not only understood, but listened to. Curls were trimmed and airated to fall perfectly in line with the next, but not shortened. My daughter was beyond happy with her results and came away with the knowledge of how to recreate the frizz free, flat curls herself.

- Melissa has been doing my hair for many years. I wouldn't have any other stylist touch my hair. Not only does she do a wonderful job in cutting and styling my hair, she is very informative and knowledgable when it comes to hair, especially curl's. I don't have curly hair but I have a natural curl that she will show me how to style. She attending the Deva school in New York and came back with wonderful ideas. She changed my mind when it comes to shampoo. I would buy whatever is on sale and now I will only wash/condition my hair with Deva No Poo products. There is a major difference in my hair because of this product.
If you want more info on her check her out on face book under "There once was a curl". You'll be glad you switched to Melissa at Anthony's.

- Melissa has been cutting my hair for 18 years and I would never go to anyone else. My hair is naturally wavy. Although, it does seem to be getting curlier as I get older. Melissa knows what cuts look good on me. If I come in with a picture, she will alter it ever so slightly so it will go with the shape of my face and still look like the picture. She is absolutely amazing. She knows how to work with my curls so my cut looks great whether I style it curly or straighten it. I love you, Melissa ;)

- I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Melissa, I have specialised as a stylist in curly hair for 27 years, and on my own for life.
I became a hairstylist to figure out how to do my own and have been on a mission ever since. I have read these board faithfully, talked and trained with some of the popular stylist on these boards, and have receintly trained for 3 days in N.Y. with Devachan.
I am working at Anthony's Hair inc. in Allen Park, Mi. and loving every minute of it. I have a a facebook page named " There once was a curl" and I'd love to chat with you about all things curly!
If you are in the area, I'd love to meet you. Consultations are always free. We can talk texture, porosity, product, and dry cutting.
I hope you'll let me join you on your curly journey
