After reading that the salon specialized in curly hair I was excited - but the cut I received here was the worst I have ever had and I am still growing it out. My boyfriend had to even out the sides the next morning. They did not listen to what I asked for and once the cut was done and it was time to dry Andrew asked how to dry it curly...he didnt even know how to use a diffuser - so much for a curly salon! never again!
she can work magic with curly hair.
whenever i got my hair cut short, it always ended up a disaster. so when i went to above ground, i was a bit scared at first. also towards the end i got a bit nervous because Cookie seemed like she was cutting off more than i wanted. But it ended up looking amazing. If you are getting your hair cut here, my advice is let cookie do her thing. she really knows what she is doing. first time in my life that i do not have anything tying back my hair and i am proud to sport my curls!!!
I wrote a review of cookie but I don't know if it didn't get posted or something because I don't see it. Anyway, I love her and she's the first person who actually got me to appreciate my curls and told me about the Curly Girl book. She also told me to throw out the shampoo, and cuts the hair first wet, then dry. She sometimes has me come back in one week just to see how things have settled out for me. She also has given me several free lessons on how to do my hair at home. Finally, she also did my wedding makeup and hair and I sure wish she did makeup for a living too! She was WAY better than anyone who I've ever been to who calls themselves a make up artist!
I've been going to Cookie for 4 years now and love her. I do feel like she always cuts more off than I want, but I always love her styles and she's the only person I'd ever tell to "feel free to do whatever you want, just don't make it too short". She also works for the Purology design team teaching people across the country to cut hair, and she even has some patents on her block-cutting techniques.
I have to completely agree with the previous poster who wrote that Cookie gave her a "rat-tail," she did the same thing to me. She gave me the worst haircut I have ever had. I went in with high expectations based on some of the reviews I had read on this site. I asked for no length to be taken off, just an allover trim -- she took off 3 inches. My hair feels SO thin now, half my hair was lying on the floor when she was finished. To make things worse, the layers on one side of my hair were cut noticeably shorter than the other, but I didn't catch it until it was too late. Cookie is friendly and *appears* to be listening, but I think she just does whatever she wants to instead. I will never go back to her. Worse, I'm going to have to wait forever to have this awful haircut grow out

I was truly hopeful when visiting Cookie. I strongly vocalized my need for "touching up " my layers, but that I didn't want length taken off....
Yes she's funny, yes she's easy to talk to. But my head is not her canvass. I was upset to find she didn't listen to my request at all. She gave me what she called a "bohemian" look, which involved cutting 5 inches off and giving me essentially a curly mullet with a rat tail. Yes, a rat-tail. I can't believe I paid this woman. Apparently some people are happy with her, but she has ruined a full year of growing out my hair. I paid her $60 to cry over my hair for two days, and due to the "mullet", I can't even put it up to hide how ugly it is while I try to grow it out again. As far as I'm concerned, she owes me $60.

First of all, Cookie's hilarious! Not only was she really easy to talk to, she was willing to work with me on my own tricky hair requirements (short hair that often needs to be pulled back for laboratory work). She had a million suggestions that I could actually do on my own too. And, I've never had a haircut that suited me better. Go see her!!

I too went to see Cookie at the end of September, and have to agree with some of the other posters.. I have been growing out my hair again, because she cut way too much off. I couldn't even put my hair up in a clip without it falling down again. The haircut is great, if she could just keep it longer, and not cut so..much off.
