It doesn't have enough hold for me, so I use it under a gel. However, it is very moisturizing, so it doubles as a leave in. Be careful not to use too much, or it can make your hair gunky. I use no more than 2 dime-size globs. I've had good results using boots under B&A gel and Joiwhip mousse, but I'm sure it would work fine under many other products.
