Encanto Brazilian Keratin Treatment

I am in no way affiliated with this company. I purchased a kit with my own money, and this is an unsolicited account of my personal experience. Before I decided to take the plunge with my own treatment, I searched for as much information and experiences as I could find. I hope this helps someone!

Kit includes:
(1) 8oz bottle clarifying shampoo
(1) 8oz bottle straightening treatment
(1) 8oz bottle conditioning treatment

Materials:
BKT kit
plastic mixing bowl
applicator brush
plastic gloves
mask (optional)
fan (optional but recommended)
fine tooth comb (optional but recommended)
flat iron (with 420-450F capability)

Step-by-step:

(1) Wash hair with clarifying shampoo 2-3x as needed to completely and thoroughly clean your hair.
I washed my hair twice with the clarifying shampoo. When I first washed, I wasn't able to get a good lather going. I thought it was the shampoo, since I have never used a SLS-free shampoo, but the second wash got a fierce lather going. My hair was in need of a good scrubbing, but I stopped at two washes because it was squeaky clean.

(2) Towel dry hair until damp, removing any excess water.

(3) Set up supplies in a well ventilated area. Put on gloves and mask (if desired). Shake straightening treatment well and squeeze into mixing bowl. Section hair into small sections, and be prepared to work with small pieces to ensure full coverage.
I set up a fan in my bathroom that was blowing directly at my face to minimize fumes. My right eye seemed to be particularly sensitive to the treatment, and it started stinging when I wasn't near the fan. I gave the treatment a couple squeezes into the bowl. You can always get more if it is needed, and less is more when applying. I found that the treatment went a long way, and you won't want to saturate your hair 'til dripping – just well covered.

(4) With applicator brush, begin applying treatment on hair starting 1/4” from scalp to ends on small sections of hair. Avoid contact with scalp! Once hair is completely covered with product, wait 15 minutes.
I was nervous starting about here! I had so much hope invested in this product, and I was afraid I was going to mess up. Relax! It's easier than you think, just time consuming. Take your time, be thorough. You will love the results. In addition to applying with the applicator brush, I used a fine tooth comb to help evenly distribute the product and pick up any excess treatment. Again, you want your hair to be fully saturated/coated but not dripping.
Also! I tend to begin from the bottom and work toward the top of my head, moving equally from side to side. This applies to flat ironing as well! I have also read that it is recommended to begin with your right side, then move to the left, top, then back. I would suggest starting where you feel most comfortable or the part of your hair that tends to be the curliest/thickest/most dry/most troublesome.

(5) After your 15 minute wait time is up, blow dry hair in small sections on medium heat until completely dry. Flat iron in like small sections with iron set to 420-450F. Iron each piece 6-7 times! Once completely ironed, wait 30 minutes.
In my experience, in order to achieve long lasting, super straight, and super silky hair, you need to put in some serious time and effort. I have always had the best results while flat ironing if I use really thin sections of hair that are roughly 1.5-2” wide. & I mean thin. Now, I will tell you, that I have some seriously thick hair, and it takes me anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours to iron my complete head of hair (counting water and boredom breaks) with this much care. If you aren't that dedicated, I would suggest using sections as thin as you can stand to ensure that you're making the most of your treatment.
About this time, I admit that I was worried. My hair was straight but it felt so dry (probably because of the keratin)! After I waited the 30 minutes, it felt a little oily or coated. Don't give up, yet! It gets much, much better. I think of this step as the strengthening process. Next, we'll get some conditioning and shine.

(6) Wash hair again with clarifying shampoo. Towel dry until damp. Do not blow dry!
Sound familiar? We're halfway done!

(7) Using applicator brush, begin to apply the Post-Treatment Conditioner starting 1/4” from scalp to ends on small sections of hair. Once hair is completely covered with product, wait 15 minutes.

(8 )Rinse your hair, leaving 50% of the treatment in your hair!

(9) Blow dry hair in small sections until completely dry. Repeat flat ironing procedure - in like small sections with iron set to 420-450F. Iron each piece 6-7 times!
This is when the magic happens! You will instantly notice amazing results. My hair was soft, silky, and oh, the shine! It felt beautiful. Absolutely worth it. I couldn't stop looking in the mirror!

(10) Work it, girl!

Note: I had colored my hair a few shades darker with a semi-permanent color before applying the treatment. After application of the BKT, I found that my color was significantly lighter than before. I wasn't upset, though! I love it. I would attribute the color change to a few different factors. My hair color typically appears darker when worn curly because of the multiple styling products used. Additionally, I used a semi-permanent color only days before the treatment. I would guess that the clarifying shampoo washed it out somewhat – my hair doesn't love to hold color.

First wash results:
Holy moly! My hair still feels incredible. I used Burt's Bees Super Shiny shampoo and a random conditioner from my arsenal. (Remember that both should be sulfate and sodium chloride free for longest lasting results!) After I let my hair dry, it was soft, shiny, and wavy. It reduced a lot of my curl, which I was personally looking forward to. I can now run a brush through my hair without monster frizz! I can wash, apply a leave-in conditioner and serum, air dry, and go. It's that easy.

Personally, I am now a forever and loyal fan. I am absolutely planning future treatments.
