For me, short layers on top definitely give me more volume as well as how my face looks on me. I'm trying to grow my hair out and have it angled (shorter in front, longer in back) and layered. I can't go with the long hair all over as it drags my face down. I usually wear bangs blown dry with a curl brush, so I keep my layers just on top shorter.

I don't plop as it just doesn't work for me. When my hair is almost dry, I take a big jaw clip, bend forward, gather my hair at the crown, put the clip in and kinda pull it just a bit. Gives me some volume when I take it down as well as helps with that Great Divide Crown Split I have going on at my crown .
