Hi, I have had a medium length afro for the past two years, but want something different now. I was thinking of something like lenny kravitz in these pictures:

So I was wondering if I could do this at home or should I have to go to a salon?
Also once it is done how do I maintain it and make sure it doesn't go flat when i sleep on it etc.?
