The re-make of El Clon, which I did not watch, was filmed in Miami (but was not a typical Miami production with actors that only get Miami roles) and also, since it was the same storyline (modern, science-y), there was no place for an over-mumu.
Miami telenovelas (the typical ones that feature mostly actors who never do anything but Miami novelas) are uniformly awful, cheesy, and often very trashy, save for 2 or 3. But poor characters are more likely to wear hideous floral shirts and dresses that look straight out of the 80s.
For over-mumus, you need to hit up Mexican telenovelas. Carmen Salinas is a classic over-mumu wearer.
I've really been missing out!
El Clon was pretty awesome though, and it was even better since it had the English closed caption option since I don't speak Brazilian Portuguese.
