I'm in Minnesota where it's been colder earlier this year. What I wear:

Thinsulate-lined wool blend toggle coat from LLBean -- it's a pretty spring green color, which is nice on dreary days

Timberland hiking boots when it's just snowed

Yak Trax over my shoes when running, or when it's extra icy

silk long underwear when it's 10 or below

always a pretty and colorful scarf -- silk or cotton, very wide but somewhat thin fabric -- which I will often wear all day for extra warmth indoors

gloves or glittens when it's below freezing
