Hello! Congrats on your decision to go curly! Well a few things that I can think of to help are
-apply products to wet hair so you can get more even distribution
-apply products either by scrunching/raking http://www.jessicurl.com/Demo-Videos-p-6.html has informative videos on this. (jessicurl products are pretty good)
-only comb hair while wet and loaded with conditioner in shower
-after you have styled your hair, don't touch it. that causes frizz
-use a microfiber towel to dry your hair by gently cupping and scrunching
-Use a very good conditioner, curls need moisture and the right conditioner can set the foundation for a good hair day
-most curlies use a leave-in conditioner under styling product(s), this is essential since its cold now
-I think lotsa curlies like to use a gel and maybe 3rd product if needed (usually cream styler, mousse, or something new they are trying!)
-there's a possibility that your curls are in shock from being straight for so long but don't worry, they'll pop back once they get enough moisture and get used to being free
well that's a few quick things I pulled from the top of my head.

Here is a website that is from another curly on this site (sweetpeacurli). It's VERY informative and tells you everything you need to know to start. It changed my life! Before this, I was 100% clueless on what to do with curly hair!
