After you find your hair properties and report them (more important then type) you also need to tell us what products you are using. If your hair is really dry--are you still using products with silicone?? Silicone (and things like mineral oil) coat the hair shaft and don't allow moisture in.
If your hair is REALLY damaged (chemicals and excessive heat) nothing will repair it or make it better. You'll have to wait until the damaged hair grows out. Frequent hair cuts, avoiding the things that damage hair and, in general, treating it with TLC will enable you to have great hair in the future.
Since you're new on the boards, you should do some reading. The stickies at the top of each forum have some great information that will enable you to understand what everyone is talking about on nc.com.
