I used it as a final rinse - so after conditioner (although I didn't use any to avoid spoiling the "experiment") and left in the hair. It actually leaves a little crunch. But let it go flat or pour back and forth between 2 glasses several times to get rid of the foam.
When my hair gets a little longer so the cut is actually worth photographing, I'll make a photo-tutorial of how I cut my hair for other DIYers. I learned it from a really awesome book from the early 80s about hair cutting (back soon after Vidal Sasson's "wash and wear, the cut speaks for itself" take was THE thing) and I'll be darned if I can remember what it was called.
