If you want less clumping, try getting more water out of your hair before you comb your styling product through and try using a regular comb.
The Denman would also be good for thinner spirals (cant help not liking the word clump!) The only way the Denman works for nice big luscious springy spirals is when the hair is super soaked. Otherwise, on damp hair it will separate them and give you lots of thin ones.
