Some of my friends who haven't seen me all summer thought that my hair would be wilder or i guess nappier (which i am not even sure what that means) instead of spirally and loose curly

but i dont think your hair can show your heritage. i mean i consider myself quite a mutt. Panamanian, Dutch, Irish, Guyanese and i am sure some other things.

I believe hair can show heritage to an extent. I mean think about it, a lot of west africans tend to have cloudlike hair in appearance, versus a lot of African Americans who tend to have more visible curls, I'm not saying this is fact, but this is from my observation. I'm not saying African Americans can't have have cloudlike hair and I'm not saying vice versa, just my observations. And by African Americans, I mean people who's family hair been here since the slave trade.

I can't even begin to explain how wrong your statement is , as someone who is west African there is a pretty even mix of kinks and curls but I understand you can only go by what you've seen .

I am going by what I know; if the hair is not relaxed a lot of west African girls don't properly know how to care for it or have it braided anyway.

Okay, first of all, LEARN TO READ. I said TEND. Not all. So no need to get huffy. And it is true. How does tight curls equal hair that isn't taken care of? And I've met west africans who's hair is more cloudlike rather than visably (sp?) coily. I never said either was bad or good, so no need to jump into defense mode. If you look at the racial make up of most african americans there is a little bit of something else mixed in there, because of the slave trade.. Whereas with west africans there is not as much. Hair doesn't always show the make up with someone, but it can a lot of the times. That is why I said to an extent.
