When I diffuse, I need a REALLY strong gel to keep my hair from frizzing during the process. Right now I am using HE set me up and a bit of Biosilk rock hard gellee. I only diffuse to about 50% dry, let it cool and "set" about 20 minutes while I have some coffee and breakfast, and then dry it most of the rest of the way so I can scrunch out the crunch.
Maybe you need a stronger gel?
Otherwise I can get away with lighter gels if I air dry, but they don't hold up to the diffusing process and I get frizz. But air drying takes ~5 hours for me, which I don't like.
