I keep my FSG in the fridge since I dont use preservatives, and Ive noticed that if I warm it up in my hands with a little friction it goes on evenly and with fewer globs. I do the "raking method" with my fingers, to disperse it all, then give my hair a little squeeze so I can hear the "squishing" sound all the way through. My clumps arent as big as other methods but for me, I opt for better/consistent definition than large clumps.
I dont have the plastic feeling problem though... mine are always pretty soft even when loaded with the gel (I like to use a lotttt so I can get 2nd day hair). How are you making your gel? I use 1/4 cup seed to 2 cups water
Edit: I just saw the line about putting in "A gelly like UFD curly magic".. have you tried FSG without the curly magic? what happens?
I do the same thing You have to have a leave in so it wont get hard and it does define your curls, I was in a rush today and I forgot the leave in and my hair was hard and crunchy but at least it was on the sides
