I mixed it with water then let it sit on my pre pooed hair for about 30 mins under a shower cap. As I was rinsing it out I could feel the middle section of my hair more coarse than normal.

Did I do something wrong?
Super late on this, I know, but I don't use water at all. I mix bentonite and rhassoul clay together and mix with aloe vera juice, an oil blend, and extracts of linden, chamomile, nettle, burdock, horsetail, marshmallow, slippery elm, and garlic. I'm not saying you have to do all that though!! Try it with aloe vera juice and some oil and see how your hair responds. The avj is a lower pH than water, closer to hair's own pH, and for me feels awesome. Good luck!
