I would also suggest a good clarifying shampoo before you try any of the great recommendations the ladies have given. If your hair is coated with silicones the suggested conditioners will not moisturize as well. I find, whenever I am testing something new, starting on clarified hair gives a better idea of the product's performance.

My favorite clarifying shampoos are: KeraCare Dry and Itchy Scalp, Black soap shampoo - this recipe is lovely and easily customizable <Link>, Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint, Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars (lather twice)...these cleanse, but not to the point that my hair seizes up and knots so bad that a good conditioner can't help me detangle after...
