My hair loves protein, in spread out doses. So I henna and then dock the protein way way down for a few weeks. But before I used henna, I would do a keratin treatment, and then back off again on protein products. The key is balance. If you get all excited and start over-using protein products your hair will start to get hard and crunchy so when you reach that point you'll know you've overdone it on protein.
I know most coconut conditioners contain a good amount of protein, and Sally's has a lot of little k-pak type treatments full of protein.
I'm not sure about seasonal changes because I've only been taking care of my hair since December. I'll have to wing it come summer! I'm in Texas so I'm sure my hair will need a different routine in 105 degree heat from June-September.
