Lightbulb What I usually do...

If I want my hair to be looser, I just tie the top with a banana clip, and dry my hair. That helps straighten out the canopy of my hair. (Ever notice how the girls in the pictures have stick straight tops?) And while I dry, I brush with the Denman (to help form clumps and loosen curl) and periodically pull down the curl (not OUT of my head!) and sometimes defuse "downwards". Key word: downwards. You want to try to loosen curl. This helps me get 2a sometimes 2a/b waves, instead of my normal 2c waves. Not sure if it will work for you as your curl pattern is stronger, but it's worth giving a shot, considering you don't have to use chemicals with my method.

Good luck!
