See, I don't think this is weird either. It's pretty logical and something a lot of people agree with. I'm not willing to eat fugu because I don't think the risk is anywhere near worth it. All I can think is that raw octopus would be unpleasantly chewy at best.
We must have different foodie circles. Folks I know wouldn't bat an eyelash to eating foie gras. I won't necessarily boycott a restaurant that serves it, but I won't go out of my way to patronize it either.
