Cowashing is good for very dry hair. You can use make your own leave-in using conditioner and water: 40:60 to start. Just be sure to shampoo when you feel the buid-up in her hair. Then seal with shea butter or an oil of your choice.

Homemade shea butter mixture is good to use as a sealant or even as a moisturizer in drier months. When you whip the shea butter, add the butter and oils of your choice. YouTube has some wonderful examples.

Covering her hair at night with a satin cap (just about any store, and Sally's) or a satin pillow case would help keep tangles at bay and keep in moisture.

In the morning, lightly mist with your homemade spritz.
