Oh, it so was dark and smelly in there, too. I always had to go get the gym teacher (much to her annoyance) to help me. She wore a friggin' whistle, which she'd blow to stop whatever else was going on before she marched into the locker room to undo my lock, yet again.
How come recess, which involved athletics, was so much more fun and productive? And how many years did the President's Physical Fitness standard prevail? I think I remember flopping onto the ground like a walrus after doing as many pushups as possible (which wasn't many).
Games were fun, but feats of endurance were hellish.
