Default Chemical straightening side affects

When I looked for any information on the boards about this, I saw a little information on the actual website, but nothing much on the boards. The article mentioned one of the worst side affects, loosing about 50% of your hair density, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this or has experienced it?

I did this to my hair when I was very young(around 11) because my hair was out of control and I live in south Florida so the insane humidity wreaked havoc on my hair! I'm now 20 so the hair that was processed has definitely been cut off, but I'm wondering what the long term side affects are. And also if there is anything I can start doing to gain back some of the hair mass/density that I used to have? I've heard a PT treatment would help but I'm new and not entirely sure how to do that.

Thanks
