I completely agree with the disrespect toward jobs that don't require a college degree (and even some that do, teachers for example). It's both someone not taking the job seriously and others not respecting the value of the person and the work they are doing that contribute to this, in my opinion.
I know plenty of 16 and 17 years old that refuse to work at a fast food job. I know plenty of teenagers and adults that believe these people are "lazy", "stupid", or "less than".
Customer service people take beatings on a daily basis from people that live in a culture where people feel entitled to have what they want, when they want, exactly how they want it.
I've seen people snap their fingers at restaurant servers with attitude. It is horrible.
Of course this doesn't excuse the behavior of subpar employees, but I think it's certainly a factor in how things are in certain industries.
