I've actually been an on-again/off-again lurker for a while...but more so in the past few weeks, since I decided to go CG, in an attempt to save what hair I have left.
I'm going to make this as short as possible... I've always had naturally curly hair, but as a kid/teenager I had no clue how to work with it so I used to perm it every year or so. Then I stopped fighting it, let it be and actually learned to love my hair. (Pics #1 & #2)
After the birth of my youngest child (just over six years ago), I had gone to a very high-end salon for a highlight/lowlight. I told them that my hair takes color VERY quickly and damages very easily, but that didn't matter... I should have just walked out when she told me she needed to flat-iron my hair in order to cut it (after a highlight, lowlight and all over toner). Pic #3 was what I looked like when I got home from the salon that day. My hair was RUINED. It was so burnt that I smelled like burnt hair for a good month afterwards, regardless of what I did. It was a huge, tangled, destroyed mess....and the worst part of it was that my hair would not curl at all -- the curls had been destroyed. I literally sobbed when another hairdresser (curly specialist) told me that the only thing to do was cut it all off. It took another year or so to grow out the rest of the damage (keeping it short the entire time), and at that point, my curl was coming back and I was wearing an inverted bob. I liked the style, but still wanted so badly to grow my hair out.
Now, it's finally growing out, but because I've also been on thyroid meds (T4 & T3), I've had a LOT of hair loss and thinning.
Pics #4 & #5 are one week into CG. (Will post more pics in another post...guess I hit my limit!)
I'm wondering -- what type of curl do I actually have? (I know it doesn't matter so much, I'm just curious!) Also, do you think that because of how thin my hair is I should just go back to the inverted bob? I have an appointment tomorrow with my curly specialist. I soooo want the hair I had 7 years ago...
