I think it definitely does matter what you put under it.

I tried out EcoStyler with LALSG over it and hated that combo. I had a sealer and a LI under that too, and my hair still felt brittle and dry. It looked ok, but I hated the feel. But hold was not a problem.

I guess it just depends on how one is using it. I can use EcoStyler as a hard hold gel, but I am layering it over product that has magnesium sulfate in it, so that could be a factor.

Interestingly, I like the generic EcoStyler that I got from the 99 Cent store more than I do the actual White EcoStyler that I buy at the drug store that costs about $4 a pot.
