Can I plop overnight?

Has anyone had any luck with this? My hair is 1-2 inches past my shoulders. I would really like to find some way not to have wet hair for most of the day. It takes so long for my hair to dry, I would LOVE for some of that to happen overnight. Will I end up with weirdness? Thanks!

*I scrunch out the water with a microfiber towel, then scrunch in my gel. I plop for an hour or so and then let air dry. I SOTC with my HG, JC Nourish and Shine. Love that stuff!*
I've overnight plopped. I use a long sleeved t-shirt with the neckline at my forehead, and wrap the sleeves across the nape of my neck and secure at the top. I sometimes get weird curls, but they are usually fixable. My hair is a little longer than yours I think. Give it a try. I do try and air dry on my days off or at night before bed if I have enough time to (sleeping SOTC), but with my current schedule, I think I need to add another wash, which will probably be an overnight plop. It's not perfect, but it works well enough and isn't horribly uncomfortable. It would be more comfortable if I were to use a curl ease towrl or large flower sack towel.

This video shows a good way to tie the plop to sleep on.

I love plopping overnight and my hair is just about your length. I use the Turbie Twist backwards to plop and just snug it really tight. It loosens up pretty quickly and is really comfortable. I've also started getting second day hair with this method. I just spritz and plop and sleep.
Hair type: 2a/b, medium to fine texture, medium to high porosity (I think!)
Routine: Occasionally wash with Lavender baby shampoo. CO wash with Garnier triple nutrition conditioner, use a nickel sized blob as a leave in, scrunch out a little water, scrunch in some aloe gel (FOTE), then scrunch in some Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee (BRHG). Plop with a backwards turbie twist for 10 min - to overnight.

I suppose, but I think my hair dislikes plopping for too long, so I have another sugestion for you!

Microfiber towels! They are AMAZING to scrunch with to get water out, and my hair loves 'em! They cut my time for drying down from three hours to around an hour and 20 minutes!

the Turbie Twist you are referring to?

I need to plop overnight b/c I cannot wash and dry in the morning. I'd have to get up at 4 am and that's not happening.

Last night I plopped for 30 minutes and then put my hair in a satin cap, but it flattened it. I think I also need to use more gel before I put it in a plop b/c it feels like all my product is gone.

I will have to try it and see what happens. Perhaps not on a day where I am going anywhere, just in case.

Devin, can I use microfiber towels from the car section of walmart? Is it the same towel you are talking about?

Yep, that's the turbie twist I use. I also scrunch out some water before I plop but less if I'm plopping overnight. That way is just slightly damp in the morning and fixable if something is flat or weird looking. I'll do it tonight and take pics. I use microfiber towels too and love them as well. I'm just not talented enough to plop in them. I get my microfiber towels from Ulta and my turbie twist from Sallys. Though at $10 bucks for 2 from bed bath and beyond that seems like the same price I paid at Sally's.

I wash at night, like the previous poster I have to get up very early and am not willing to get up even earlier to wash my hair.

A few different things work for me, my hair's a little past BSL and slow-drying.

#1 for best results: Wash, gel, scrunch like mad, diffuse until mostly dry, high ponytail (but first squish the nape hair up in bobby pins, sort of a pincurl thing, it's looser than the rest of my hair so if I sleep on it the hair gets very straight underneath) and then satin cap over everything to keep it nice.

#2 if I don't get it dry enough, same as #1 but no satin cap, pony but leave the tail loose so it can dry without disrupting the curlage.

#3 if I can't stay awake to dry at all, overnight plop very wet hair, it doesn't dry overnight that way but the curls form up nice and then dry in the morning.

I don't think it works to let your hair go from wet to dry while plopped, but if it's either already pretty dry and knows what it's doing, OR wet enough that it will still be wet in the morning, it works fine to plop overnight.

Yes, that's the towel I mean! (: I got the big blue ones, they work well. You could attempt plopping with them too, I think they'd fit if you're into that.

I am just a bit concerned that plopping overnight most nights might not be great for my hair. I am hoping that it is at least better than blow-drying, though? I really need my curl routine to work for me, and I am loving the get-up-and-go aspect of overnight plopping. But improving the condition of my hair is also important to me. Can anyone help me out on this? Please?

When plopping you need to accordion fold your hair. Here is one video. Jessie curl has videos (they call it plunking) and there are several youtube videos.

I'm overnight plopping as we speak!(:
I'm a 2a/2b, and when my hair is wet it's about 3 inches below my shoulders, and about shoulder length when dry.
I'm plopping with a long sleeve t-shirt.
I plopped overnight when I first started CG and my hair turned out really good, but lately my curls have been angled really weird after overnight plopping. This time I tied the sleeves a little less tightly so hopefully I'll get good results.

My routine (It always varies from day to day)
-Co wash with juicy green apple sauve naturals
-Condition hair with Juicy green apple (again) from root to tip and mix in a different CG friendly conditioner ( I like to switch it up and see what works best, tonight I used Bigsexyhair Volume conditoner) and leave in while I wash and shave ( I put my hair in a bun while I'm doing this, BTW)
- Detangle hair, with a brush ( I know that can be damaging for curly hair,I'm working on using a wide tooth comb and finger combing more)
- Rinse out most of conditioner
( Out of shower )
- Apply a little bit of Juicy green apple conditioner again, as a leave-in.
- Finger comb it through
- Apply Coconut milk split end mender to ends (I can't remember the brand)
- Put some "Catch the wave" Aussie mouse/leave-in on scalp for some volume
- Apply "Set me up" gel by herbal essences
- Detangle hair
- Scrunch with a tee shirt ( upside down)
- Plop

I'll update with the results tomorrow!(:
P.S Sorry if there's some spelling mistakes, I'm really sleepy.
Goodnight(:
I used to plop overnight. But I started getting headaches. I stopped plopping and still wash at night but I just spread my hair over my pillow now.

I have to wash at night because it takes too long to dry. Even with washing at night and not plopping I still wake up with damp hair.

I have hair similar to yours. I don't plop but do something I call 'plopsterbize'- I take a cotton t-shirt and stick my whole head through the collar. Now my hair hangs down ( I do this upside down) the chest portion of the shirt. Then I take a pony tail and pineapple it, including the shirt. P.S.- don't include your bangs in it-it makes them really wonky! But my hair looks nearly the same in the morning. If there is a little extra frizz, I just wet it down slightly and rescrunch. Works fantastic!
