Methods:
Ice queen method.-I skip the cold water because I hate being cold. But I tried a cold water rinse when it was 100 degrees outside and it does help with clumping.
plopping
Pixie diffusing
Smasters Awesome hair technique

Products:
Ecostyler
BRHG

I find good clumps give me better curl.
The ice queen method gives me great clumps. Ecostyler also gives me good clumps (and encourages curl).

Getting some of the water off my hair as it dries also helps. The weight of the water pulls the hair downward as it dries. Plopping and diffusing help with this.

Pixie diffusing and the smasters method help to form the curls/waves as they dry.

BRHG has a very strong hold and helps the waves to be closer to the way they looked when they dried after I SOTC.

Where can I buy the BRHG?
Walmart sometimes has it. CVS and K-mart have it. Amazon.com has big bottles.

I pout about not being more than a 2a and then when I pull myself together and get over that, I:
  • ACV after each cleanse
  • Add BRHG over everything else I have tried
  • Diffuse
  • Use duckbill clips in my twirling/lifting method (someday I will video this so that I can show because explaining is weird)
I'm 47. Straight hair until 6/2010. THANKS, thyroid!

I find it is more the methods and less the products, but I've listed some I've had success with. I agree the clumps help as they add definition. I also find that getting the water out as much as possible with diffusing helps as the less water in my hair, the less the curls get weighed down and the less potential for frizz. The smasters method seems to seal in the curls a bit more.

2b-3a Fii, porous and low elasticity

Currently using a variety of products, and looking for that magic combo

Hair bio: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlta...5&postcount=59

I just started using LALSG and found it to give me much more curl/wave than usual. Ecostyler and CJ stuff and SSM seem to give me more clumps. I take frizz control and big barrel curl/waves over tighter curls though.
2b/c, medium/high porosity, medium/coarse texture

methods:
icequeen
plopping

products:
BRHG
Darcy's coiling gelly
Donna Marie Curling gelly
Yes to Cukes conditioner

Since it's been cooler here lately I seem to have settled in a routine. Icequeen with Yes to Cukes. Scrunch out water upside down, scrunch in my gelly of choice for the day. Plop for about 5-10 mins, scrunch in BRHG, then plop for another 5-10 mins. Hair looks a little producty until it dries but I'm ok with that.

Regular PT+DTs are critical for me as well. My fav combo is CJ Curl Rehab and CJ Curl Fix!
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

This thread is definitely for me! I will be watching it closely, because I am looking for some new techniques to bump up my curls.

My fav methods:

Plopping -- my hair loves this. It encourages my waves AND dries them at the same time! (Loving the clumps it gives.)

Super Soaker Method -- I have my own modified method. I don't have a leave-in condish (currently looking for one. Any suggestions are more than welcome!), so I just come out of the shower, comb my hair as minimally as possible to get my part right, and go to the sink to scrunch in palmfuls of water. Works so well! The water and scrunching makes my waves appear right away, which is kind of hard to do when my thick hair is soaking wet.

I am going to try the Icequeen Method again. I tried it once, but I am positive I didn't do it right, so I didn't see any difference in my hair. (I don't know if it's just me, but why would you scrunch your hair when it's soaked with water? Wouldn't the weight of it just pull your hair down, working against the scrunching? If someone could explain this, I would very much appreciate it!)
I would also like to try the wet pineapple. Sounds logical -- no weight on your curls = springy spirals!

So many possibilities! Can't wait to hear the other responses.
Type 2c/3a with lots of hair and a super sensitive scalp! Med/slightly coarse texture, low porosity and elasticity.

For clarification: would you define "weak wave pattern?" Does that mean hair that doesn't make waves or curls without application of particular techniques/styling products (or both) or does it means hair that (has) waves, but doesn't curl?

Or does it mean a quiet summer afternoon on the beach, with the weak waves lapping softly on the sandy shore... 'Cause I sure know how I would deal with THAT!
http://science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/
By weak wave pattern, I mean hair that has waves that need encouragement to be wavy. Without encouragement, it can often end up almost straight. Many wavies with a weak wave pattern question whether or not their hair is really wavy. See this thread:
Spin off thread: The wavy imposter, it is not just you.
A strong wave pattern could be a strong 2a pattern. If you have a strong wave pattern, your hair is hard to straighten. It will dry with the same wave pattern without the clever use of products and techniques (but might have frizz or other issues).
I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for starting this ped.. I definately have a weak wave pattern. More so the top layers then the bottom (the bottom has a mind of it's own - even if I blow dry straight it'll kink up *shrugs*)

I'm still fiddling with different techniques and products but here's a few I've liked lately

products:
re:coil
KCCC - makes my s's more spiral, have to be careful it's a very amount dependent product; too much and yuck to little and fluffy!

techniques -
ice queen; a little difficult with the short back I have atm but I did see a difference
smaster; helped decrease frizz
pixie diffusing; less water to pull waves down, helps to set them
culisto product application; helped to created more even wave pattern, but excessive product made hair 'dirty'/ gunky faster!

That's all I have for now. Will be checking in on others suggestions.

Aiming to grow hair to waist from buzz cut - slowly but surely.
Of course I had to run out and buy a small bottle of BRHG to try! I've heard so many great things about it, so I'm looking forward to using it in the morning.

OK - I admit it. I'm a product junkie!

I mostly have a strong wave pattern with a few weak pieces along my sides and back. What I've been experimenting with is taking "twisting" the lock and wrapping it around my finger.I've been getting the best results from that if I do it after I apply product. But it's tricky... play with it too much and you get a frizz, do the Supersoaker on it and you risk unraveling the twist. It's still a work-in-progress, lol. Sorry I don't have more ideas! Plopping and airdrying seem to work just fine for me, generally.
