My curls just disappeared! I don't know what happened, but I am def going to try IAgirls treatment and see if I can get my curls back....i am so lost and confused right now. This has never happened to me before. I got my hair colored and highlighted last week which is def nothing new....I love to play around with color. I went to wash my and and noticed my fabulous curls are gone! =[
Had 3b hair kinda on the fine side but a lot of it and waist length.

Wowowow!!!
I've tried natures gate conditioners before, and my hair was stiff afterwards, so I figured my hair didn't love protein. But I decided to try gelatin anyway, what the heck, my hair is already a frizz ball.
Yesterday I deep conditioned with coconut oil, then lightly cleansed with everyday shea bubble bath. My hair felt fuller and moisturized, but it was still frizzy. So today I made the basic gelatin recipe in the microwave and with no clarifying, let it sit on my hair for at least 30 min. Then I rinsed thoroughly and let it air dry.
My hair is very very soft now, not what I expected at all! The frizz is also less. It seems a little more limp though. I'm definitely going to try it again!

Well perhaps I spoke too soon. I like the softness, but DH pointed out my hair was also straighter. Also, after I played with my hair a bit, there was a soft, even halo of frizz all over my head. I smoothed it down with olive oil, and am now sitting with coconut oil on my head for another deep conditioning. :P
Oddly, my hair reacted the opposite way to natures gate conditioners, which have plant-derived hydrolyzed protein: my hair was more curly, and stiff.
Maybe my hair just doesn't like hydrolyzed protein that much. My hair loves coconut oil, maybe I should try coconut milk? :P

I've had a box of Knox Gelatin sitting on my kitchen counter for a month, trying to get up the nerve to do a PT after reading so many accounts of straw-like reactions. I finally did it last weekend. I was afraid to leave it on for too long so I only left it in for about three minutes, then rinsed and conditioned with SN Everlasting Sunshine. I didn't notice any difference in my hair at all.
So last night, I decided to do a longer PT and I let it dry in my hair. Rinsed it out and was again afraid of too much protein, so I made a DT from 4 parts conditioner and 1 part jojoba oil, slathered that on, wrapped it in plastic wrap and a towel and let it sit for two hours. Rinsed and let it air dry. My hair was EXTREMELY soft and frizzy around the crown.
This morning my DH looked at my hair and went, "Oh... wow...." Looked in the mirror and I had a GIANT head of very soft frizz! I washed out the remains of the DT with Jessicurl GLS and styled as usual. I don't really notice any difference in the way my hair looks or behaves, except the waves are a little looser than usual. Same amount of frizz as always. Don't know if I'll do another PT any time soon...it doesn't seem to do anything for me.

I think you overconditioned after your last PT. The overly soft frizz & looser curl pattern are classic symptoms of OC'ing, which would undo anything the PT did for you. If your hair didnt feel strawlike or too rough when you rinsed the gelatin out, you were probably fine I'd try it again, especially if your hair is fine, & be less afraid of it and go with a lighter conditioner as an RO after the PT.

After my coconut oil treatment, my hair looked great. Very little frizz, shiny hair, but not oily at all. I don't remember having this result when I've done coconut oil in the past, so maybe the pt did something good. Now if I can maintain this moisture...
My hair is weird. Reacted to the gelatin as if I had over conditioned, then improved when I added more oil. :P

Im confused now lol, are you responding to me? My comment was directed at motorcurl. But i have heard of other wavies getting soft after a PT. I personally dont have a clue how a PT alone could cause that.

My hair is dry now and feels SUPER soft. I've also noticed significantly less frizz some good clumping. All that is in my hair currently is a pea sized amount of catwalk honey and oatmeal conditioner on my ends (they were really dry before PT). I have high hopes for my hair in the morning. This is my week 3 of a modified CG. my roots are def doing something weird. (oily/over conditioned/no clue). Looking forward to everything evening its self out. i just want a little more consistency in my pattern.

Thanks, lcl. My hair felt tangled after the long PT, but not really dry or rough. I'll try another one (two packets of Knox left ) and just use my SN as a rinse out.

Tangled is normal! Especially if you'd had it all piled up under a shower cap. Its basically jello in your hair lol! Tangled can be fixed with a light RO, its when it feels stiff & strawlike that its over-PT'd.

Just... wow!
Found this thread yesterday, bought the Knox gelatin, and did my first ever PT today.
I have short hair, so I used 1/2 packet, adding a glob (I know, technical term!) of Suave TC, a few drops of avocado oil, and a couple drops of honey. Massaged it in, and used the blow dryer for a while. It was strange, because my scalp felt really HOT where the dryer was blowing, though the air wasn't that hot. It kind of freaked me out, so I didn't dry it out completely. I thought I might be having an allergic reaction or some such (that wasn't the case).
Rinsed/cowashed with Suave TC, then did a short DT with Biolage Deep Condish. I didn't like the way my hair felt after that, so I reapplied the Suave, then used Aussie instant freeze and used the diffuser to dry.
My curls were sparse (didn't do a good job applying the AIF), but my hair is so soft! It hasn't been this soft in years. This evening I re-wet and applied Herbal Essence Curl Scrunching Gel, diffused a bit, and now I'm air-drying the rest. wow. Curls!!
Thanks so much for this easy-peasy recipe! I'm definitely going to be doing this weekly for a while.
Edited to add: Oh, one other thing, concerning using a ziplock bag and standing under a hot shower for a few minutes. Perhaps it isn't a big deal in your part of the world, but where I live, water is really precious. I really couldn't justify doing that even for the convenience.
But as I said, where you live that may not be a problem!

Reason: concern with conserving water.

So glad the PT worked for you, CurlyJulia.
I think water conservation is important no matter where you live, it's the overlooked scarce resource. If you put the PT on when you start a shower with some plastic over the hair and get it warm by sticking your head briefly under the water - you've got enough heat from your body to do the rest, even if the water is off. Enough heat for me, anyhow! I usually skip the plastic too.

I didn't use plastic, heat, or running water, and the treatment still had a big effect on my hair.

I hadn't thought of that, IAgirl... of course, that would used the heat from the water you're already going to use. Perfect!

Hey, so... a week ago I was able to click the link on the first post and view the whole blog and recipe... but now when I click it I have to log into google for some reason, and then it says I don't have permission to view the blog.
What happened? Is anyone else having this issue?

Her life has gotten too busy for that blog! She is a member at the Wavy facebook group, though, and could be convinced to post the recipe there.
