PT recipe - as promised

Like Tree25Likes

So I did this again today.

1 1/8 tsp gelatin (1/2 packet)
1/8 c water
1/8 tsp acv
1/4 tsp olive oil
1/4 mashed banana
squirt of conditioner

This time I bumped up the olive oil. Next time I think I'll reduce the water to 1T and increase the conditioner and see how that goes. I could still use more moisture if I can get it for my dry hair.

Rinse out/leave in: Renpure Organics (red)
Curl enhancer: FSG
Gel: BRHG, Salon care aloe, Ecostyler Krystal (normal dews)
PT: ION effective care, IAgirl's gelatin PT
Low Poo: renpure (red), Ion swimmers
Here is what is on my head now.
1 1/8 tsp gelatin (1/2 packet)
1 T water
1/8 tsp ACV
1/2 tsp oil (1/4 tsp olive and 1/4 tsp avocado)
1/4 mashed banana
1 T conditioner

It is thicker for sure and seems like it will add more moisture. I'll have to wait until I wash it out to know for sure.

Wow, really tweaking the PT recipe Pedaheh! Olive and avocado oil sounds like a good mix. More conditioner seems like it would help the "rough" post-PT feeling. Hope it works well for you.

I think I'm really close to having this PT the way I want it for my hair. I think I will add even more oil next time. I'm making the IAgirl gelatin PT for moisture and protein thirsty hair.

I forgot to post. I did this the other day with 1 tsp total oil (1/2 tsp avocado and 1/2 tsp olive). I like it and that may be my final recipe. I'm going to experiment with adding more oil until my hair cries uncle.

Wow, did you need to wash out the oil afterwards or did you just rinse? Condition post PT?
You have some thirsty hair!

Conditioner seems to get most oils out of my hair just fine. I do and overnight coconut oil treatment, the gelatin PT, rinse, DT of my regular conditioner and honey, rinse.
I just read the ingredients to the mill creek PT. There is lots of oil in there, so it emboldened me to try even more in my PTs.
My hair doesn't like oils left on the hair in leave-ins, styling products, and sealing.

I was going to stop posting to this thread until I figured out a final recipe. However, today I substituted coconut milk for the water. I thought this might be a change someone else may want to try. I also increased the oil.

Today's version
1 1/8 tsp gelatin (1/2 packet)
1 T coconut milk
1/8 tsp ACV
1 1/2 tsp oil (1/2 tsp olive, 1/2 tsp avocado, 1/2 coconut oil)
1/4 mashed banana
1 T conditioner

-I leave out the honey because I put it in my DT after
-I'm starting to think the avocado oil might be drying out my hair. (or it could be winter)
-coconut milk + banana smells yummy
-Off Topic: Coconut milk is great in chai tea.

I just realized I never posted here to tell you how much I love your PT recipe, IAgirl, even though in other threads I have sung the praises of your PT.

This is my recipe, tweaked to my hair, and it's been working great:

1/4 cup of water
1/4 cup of coconut milk
1 packet of gelatin
1/8 ts of ACV
a little avocado oil (did not measure)
a little conditioner

With this recipe, I don't even need to use any conditioner afterward to detangle my hair, it just doesn't get hard or straw-like. My hair is shiny and much stronger, so thank you ever so much!

I don't use heat, been afraid to use heat on my very heat sensitive hair, but I'm going to definitely give it a go next time. How do you all do this, I mean how do you keep it from dripping all over, or do you use a shower cap or something like that? Would using a cap make applying heat less effective?

I'm going to have to try it with banana, Pedaheh, your recipe looks intriguing.

I put a non-zipper plastic bag over my hair and that seems to hold most of it in. I let the warm water run over my bagged, PT'd head in the shower (LOUD!) and that seems to do the trick. I try for about 5 minutes. Heat speeds up the reaction of the protein bonding to the hair and the acid makes sure that happens.
I've been too lazy to put in the banana of late, but I like it. Coconut milk is an interesting idea -- are you gals making curries with the rest of the can?
Yum!
Glad the PT works for you Nikske.

Actually, I am. I love curries, but especially ones with coconut milk. When I make curry, I usually have some coconut milk left over, which I put in the freezer in an ice cube tray.

Thanks for the tip on the shower, I only ever thought of using a dryer, not the warmth of a shower. Will try this next time.

My version of this PT is much thicker and doesn't drip.
I usually put a grocery bag over my head just to keep it moist. If I need a very strong PT I use a blow dryer and blow it completely dry before I rinse it out (being careful not to blow it around as it dries). Rinsing takes a while when you do that, because essentially banana jello set on your head. Most times I either leave it on an hour-ish with no hear or sit under my hard hat dryer 15-20 minutes.
My major benefits from this PT are shiny hair and stronger hair.

I impulse bought a 2 quart container of Silk coconut milk. I've mostly added it to chi tea so far. I plan to mix it with pineapple juice and coconut rum (maybe some blue curacao) and making some Thai food.

OFF TOPIC:

My Thai red curry from America's Test Kitchen. I usually serve it over pan fried fish. I've adjusted the recipe before to use the whole can.
COCONUT-RED CURRY SAUCE
Makes about 1 cup

2 tsp vegetable oil
1 small garlic cloves, minced or pressed through a a garlic press (about 3/4 tsp)
2 tsp minced fresh ginger
2 tsp red curry paste
1/2 tsp brown sugar
1 c coconut milk
1 1/2 tsp lime juice (about 1 lime)
2 tsp fish sauce
3 T water
1 T chopped fresh cilantro
Salt and black pepper
lime wedges for serving

1. Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking; off heat, add garlic, ginger, curry paste, and sugar and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add coconut milk, lime juice, fish sauce, and water; increase heat to high and bring to a boil; boil until sauce is reduced to about 1/2 cups, about 3 minutes. Off heat, stir in cilantro and season to taste with salt and pepper. Cover to keep warm and set aside; stir once after about 1 minute. You may need to stir sauce to recombine before serving.

Banana jello on your hair, now it cannot get more Midwestern than that!
Pedaheh, that recipe makes me want to make some curry, looks like a good one. Nothing smells so good...
It never occurred to me to freeze the sauce, what a great idea! Leftovers rock!

Slightly OT, because I've been dying to try the Silk Coconut: Could you froth it like milk for use in cappuccinos?

I am dying to try that curry as well. Mmmm.

I went back and edited the measurements on my recipe. I had thought it was originally tripled, but it wasn't...bla, bla, bla...it is correct now.
