Just wanted to say that I used this PT for the second time as a sort of rinse in the shower, and it turned out AWESOME and couldn't be easier!! I just poured it over my head after I washed my hair, put a little RO on top, and let it sit till I was done. I was hoping the shower steam would help it "sink" in. Guess it did something good, because my hair turned out really bouncy and curly the day I did that! Have to do it again...been lazy and busy lately.

Used this today as my curls were looking so limp and fluffy mushy gross. What a wonderful protein treatment. I could feel the difference in my hair as soon as I put it on. I went with the basic recipe, and stood under the hot water for 5 minutes with a shower cap on. I'll definitely try some of the other variations to see what works best, but this worked awesomely so far.
Thank you so so much for posting this

I tried this today and it totally changed the look and feel of my hair. WOWEEE shine city!!!!! It also made my hair feel very light and airy after it was fully dry. I will add a warning though... make sure if you add the banana that you mash it up very very well and use the mixture almost right away after mixing it in. I had some serious clumpy mess in the shower to clean up. I also had to comb it out of my hair while under the running water because the banana pieces were stuck LOL!!! BTW my hair felt very interesting in a good way while rinsing it out.
I think I'll try this again when I feel my hair needs a shine and body pick me up. Not sure what adjustments I'll make to it the recipe though... I think the original one posted by IAgirl was just about right.

I have abandoned the banana for honey. Too many ways for it to go wrong. Sometimes it's really great and sometimes it's just lumps depending on how well it's blended, how ripe the banana was, what else was in the PT...
So glad you liked it (banana issues aside)!

So, I am going to try this, but didn't want to over do the product. After I wash it out, do I go and put a leave in conditioner in as usual at that point?

Any oil will work. Especially if your hair tends to be dry of feel rough coconut oil or olive oil are good. If your hair is fine and silky, canola oil, apricot kernel oil (or olive or coconut) are nice. I often skip the oil because I'm in a hurry - but if you are blow-drying this on your hair, the oil feels nicer.
It's a very flexible recipe, the only "rule" is that you absolutely MUST dissolve the gelatin completely. Originally I was trying to make a non-smelly, inexpensive, preservetive-free substitute to Aphogee 2-step (Step 1). Without the oil and stuff, it's a lot like Nexxus Emergencee, another fabulous but pricey PT.

hi, right now I am trying the protein treatment, with cherry jello. I used to use jello to dye my hair when I was 16 and thought "what the heck"
To IaGirl...thanks again for this great recipe. The easiest way i have found to get consistent results with banana is to use banana baby food. That way all the work is done.

Day 1: Cowash and condition with AO GPB, ACV Rinse,
Co-Kra gel (this stuff is fantastic)
Day 2: KCKT, KCCC, plop, KCCC, plop again, air dry
Day 3: Curly Kinks Satin Roots, Coil Jam
Day 4: IAGirl's PT, KBB DT, FSG
Co-Kra gel is my own concoction of okra boiled in coconut milk. It is a cross between FSG and KCCC and leaves my hair very soft and shiny

IA girl must have missed this post. You follow this PT with a conditioner or DT, depending on how much moisture your hair needs. Then do everything else as you normally would.

If you get a result you like, for example it makes your waves more wavy or bouncy, then do it again when you feel like you need a boost or its initial effects are wearing off. Once per week is common for protein fans.

Pretty much interchangeable - those two vinegars. Or just leave it out.

So I tried this again tonight, since even though I've got a good styling routine down I still feel like my waves are so limp and fall midway through the day.
Reduced water and the conditioner so it wasn't so runny. Did 1/8 C water, 1 packet gelatin, 1/4 tsp ACV, and 1 tsp YTC conditioner.
It was liquidy and then by the time I got hot water going and got in the shower, it had almost completely solidified. I had to scoop it out and rub it in between my palms before it would spread through my hair. I topped it all with a shower cap and let it sit for 15 mins. It rinsed out easily and my hair definitely felt "rougher" than it did last time so I could tell I'd gotten a hit of protein.
This recipe made the perfect amount for my almost-shoulder-length hair, and once I got it into my hair I loved that it wasn't drippy, but I've got to find a way to get it on my hair faster before it solidifies. I felt like I needed a microwave next to my shower
Followed with a 10 min dose of biolage conditioning balm. Letting it air dry tonight and have not attempted to style it in any way. It softened up with the biolage and feels like normal now. Will post results tomorrow, see if it springs up at all or feels any different after a normal styling routine. No earth shattering results one way or the other to post tonight.

Still no major results one way or the other. I'm going to stick with it though. If I've learned anything, it's that my hair doesn't HATE protein like I originally feared it might. It's no worse, but hasn't really been any better over the past week. I'm getting more and more convinced my hair is fine and porous, though, so I'll keep it up for a few weeks. I think next time I'm going to try leaving it on a little longer.

Just a quick question...how exactly do you ladies know that the PT is working? I've done two PT's and I want to say there was no noticable change...
Am I just blind? Lol.
My hair feels the same...dry and frizzy
Could it be I don't have fine hair and my hair does not like PT's?? How to tell?? Uggh (

How long did you leave it on? And did you do a DT afterwards?
