Hairstyle ideas
I'm going to get my hair cut at a new salon and by a new stylist (has awesome reviews on here) as soon as my hair is long enough. Which I'm guessing will be about two months.
I know I want layers cut in again, but I really don't know if I want face framing layers or bangs or neither.
I also know I want it ideally shoulder-length, but no shorter than collarbone-length.
Any ideas or pics? I really want to bring a picture in.
I attached a picture from a couple weeks ago. The very front pieces of my hair are pulled back in the pic, cause I was having a bad hair day.

But your hair is so lovely!
I would maybe go for face-framing layers. Are the front pieces of hair that you tied back the same length as the rest of your hair? I think bangs may be a bit too much, but it's kind of hard to decide because part of your hair is pulled up. That's a very pretty hairstyle on you!

Thank you!
I only pulled back the VERY front pieces in that picture. A little 1/2" section on each side. Those pieces are a little bit longer than the rest of my hair around 60% of the time because they aren't as wavy as the rest of my hair. I would take another picture now, but my sister has our camera with her and won't be back home for another two weeks.
I think you're right and bangs would be too much.
I think I may keep the shape and keep the length at collarbone, but I definitely need layers and something to frame my face.

If I've learned one thing on this site, I've learned that I will never be a hair stylist. I can't look at anyone and tell them what they should do with their hair.
If you want to test drive bangs, this link tells you how to do faux retro bangs.

I'm a fan of long, "face-framing layers." They're not a big deal, but can be a nice change. It's hard to go terribly wrong, which is so easy with bangs. You can still pull face-framing layers back when the mood hits you (hair in face driving you crazy). That is a very pretty look on you! Your hair is so shiny and healthy looking.
I like the face-framing thing for softening my narrow face and pointy chin. And I like that they tend to direct my hair back, away from my face, out of my line of sight. The layers help that part of my hair wave and curl, whereas when it was the same length, it just sort of hung there, twirling at the ends.
Hope that's useful.

You're adorable and I think that anything you do will be fine. But face framing layers are less finicky than bangs, even side-swept ones.

Okay, tried that and bangs are a no-go. It's just too much for my face and they drove me crazy. Thanks for posting that!
Thank you!
I'm still debating the face-framing layers. The front pieces tend to be very straight with only a little wave at the ends. I've never tried face-framing layers before though.
Thank you.
I know I'm keeping it collarbone-length since that seems to be the most flattering length on me. Shoulder-length is pushing it and anything longer than that drags my face down and doesn't look good. I know I can't go wrong with layers (as long as I have a good stylist!). Last time I had layers cut in it made my hair curlier and it was easier to style.

If you had shorter layers by your face, you could probably grow it longer without dragging your face down. Then, like you said, you'd have to deal with straighter pieces in the front. Alas, the woes of a wavy.

Okay....my curl pattern comes out and looks much better when it's longer. But I look much better with shorter hair. At least with every haircut I've ever had.
When I only conditioner style and do a light glazing of styling product after it's dried 30% with my hair this long (shoulder-length when I style this way), my curl pattern looks much better. It's more consistent S waves throughout with bigger more corkscrew type curls underneath. Curling doesn't start until the top of my ear.
Do you guys think it would look good if I grew it out to mid-shoulder blade and got it cut in a layered V-shape with face-framing layers?? Maybe since i would have shorter pieces near my face it wouldn't drag my face down?

First of all, your hair is really pretty and you're so cute! I agree that bangs might overwhelm you (and your eyebrows are WAY too awesome to cover up), but I think face framing layers would be cute. I even think a few really short pieces, that hit at your eyes or cheekbones, might be really cute and would draw attention to your eyes which are just gorgeous.
When you meet with the stylist, discuss your needs and concerns with her before you start talking about a specific cut. She'll be able to look at your hair and know pretty well how it will react and lay. She'll be able to recommend what layers and what length would compliment your features.
Be sure to post pictures when you get it cut!

I'm still growing it out and debating on the length and style.
I'm having a little trouble with the bottom part having to much volume cause I'm at that awkward stage right now where it's barely past my shoulders. It's up in a pony tail most days. I've still got a 3 or so inches to go.

Considering your face shape might also help pick a style

Thanks for the link.
I've looked at several pages on how to figure it out and I'm still not sure what my face shape is...

I read once that the way to figure it out is to look in the mirror. Then trace the shape of your face (with lipstick? can't remember). Then look at the outline to figure out your face shape. I just imagined tracing my face and didn't use any actual washable marker/lipstick. My face is square.

Thanks for the tip! I'm pretty sure my face shape is oval. Not 100% positive, but pretty sure.

You are so cute. I think you may have a little heart shape to ya. Maybe it's just the pic but it kinda looks that way. Either shape is nice.

The description for heart face shapes sounds right. Slicked back updos are much too harsh, including pony tails. Anything above chin length is way too short and a disaster in the making and too much height at the crown is a complete mess. I think my face shape borders oval and heart.
