I got my curl genie results!!!

So I was shocked to find my results! I have medium texture with some characteristics of fine, normal porosity, and low elasticity. Totally not what I expected! I never would have associated my hair with anything "fine". I am also shocked that my hair is normal porosity with all the crap I have been going through. I guess I have average hair that has low elasticity from the straightening. My mind still has to wrap around this new info. I'm excited that I'm pretty normal! This should make my life easier... we will see! I had good 3 day hair today, not great but good enough to go out in public!
One thing I was disappointed in with the results was the suggestions for Shampoos/cleansers, DT, PT, and Finishers were expensive and no cheap alternatives. I shouldn't have to do DT's and PT's but if I did I would look for something much cheaper than what was listed. I would love a cheap cleanser/low poo. On one of the gels that was listed hasn't worked for me in the past but maybe it was the technique I was doing not the product.
Anyway, I'm very excited about learning new things with my hair that I didn't know!!! Anybody else have opposite results than what they were expecting?

Curl Genie: Medium-fine texture, normal porosity, low elasticity, medium density

I got mine also! After only mailing it in a week ago! Shocked!

Mine were also totally opposite of what I thought- My hair has always been referred to by my family as a horse mane. My results said Med texture with some fine with normal porosity and normal elasticity. I really thought I had low porosity so it definitely simplifies things.

I must just have alot of med./fine textured hair!

I agree about the pricer treatments. Maybe you can post what they recommended you here and someone can suggest a cheaper similar alternative.

I won't be doing many PT/DT's either which is a load off. I was on the fence about what to do about that.
Trying to figure out and maintain protein/ moisture balance
Low sulphates, no silicones Nov 2011

Cleansing: Dove Cool Moisture
RO: AO GPB, Tresseme Naturals, YTT
Stylers- CK, BRHG, AG Re:coil, CJPP, KCCC, HETT mousse

2nd day hair- Paul Mitchell Mousse scrunched in

Easily weighed down, tendency to get OC'd

2c/3a with some curls in there/Med to fine Texture/ Normal Porosity/ Normal Elasticity
I am also relieved. I thought I was high porosity for awhile then I thought I was low-normal so finding out I am definitely normal is a big load off my chest. I must just have a lot of medium-fine hair also. That must be why it takes so long to dry. It said the elasticity will get better with time so once I get that better I will have pretty "normal" hair. That sounds weird coming out of my mouth. I have been told all my life pretty much the same as you...horse mane. I also got my results in one week, I was dying waiting for it!

Maybe a PT will improve your elasticity. That often perks up curls and waves. If you have a Sally's nearby, you can get single-use packets of Ion Effective Care Treatment or Aphogee 2 minute which are "high protein" conditioning treatments. Both are around a dollar and thus you are not committed to an entire bottle.
You can use the homemade gelatin PT also PT recipe - as promised for a lower-investment option.

I had to do two hardcore PTs before I saw/felt a difference in elasticity. So glad your results are in!

Hey! It looks like we're almost hair twins! The only difference is that she didn't mention my hair having fine tendencies at all, just that my hair is straight up medium (which was a HUGE shock, I always thought my hair was quite fine). But I'm kind of betting I have fine tendencies as well, just because some of the products she suggested I have tried in the past and the only reason I stopped using them was because they were too heavy.

I actually thought of you when I got my email, because I remember we both posted about sending our samples in at the same time. I was wondering if you'd gotten yours this quickly too!

I will admit I'm a little confused, though. I mentioned this in another thread so apologies for anyone reading it twice, but she told me to stay away from emollients, but then in the product suggestions she frequently said "this one should be OK because the emollients are light" - which is great for those specific products, but if I want to branch out and try things not on the list, I don't feel like I have enough knowledge to know when looking at *other* products how heavy/light those emollients are. Thank goodness for NC.com, too, where I found a list of emollients. Without that I'd be *super* clueless!

Normal porosity, low elasticity, medium texture

(according to CurlGenie - HUGE surprise, I always thought I had fine hair and my stylists always agreed)

Tried CG for a summer, but it wasn't for me. I don't load up on sulfates and silicones, but I have no shame in using them when I want/need to! Currently loving LOOB.

She said the same thing to me about emollients. I'm confused about that also. I guess light ones aren't too bad for us?? I'm kinda confused about emollients anyway. I will have to look up a list too!

Hi, guys! Long time lurker, first time poster...this one drew me in!
KeLynn, you appear to be my hair twin.. I got my results back, too and mine is exactly the same as yours! I have been using the recommended products (the cheaper ones), and I think I'm finally getting results. I was confused, too about finding other products, though. Since we are supposed to PT as needed and stay away from them in daily products, and also not have heavy emolients, it's hard to shop, because I'm still having trouble identifying them. Did they recommend Suave Waterfall Mist or Wild Cherry Blossom to you. Who knew it would be so hard to find Wild Cherry Blossom?? Anyway, I got so excited to finally see a hair twin, I HAD to chime in!!

Back when some of us were experimenting with Aphogee 2-step (very protein-y), that turned out to be a good way for the protein-timid to test the waters.

I got mine yesterday too! I am Medium with fine characteristics, low porosity and normal elasticity. A few of the items that were recommended I already use. It did also tell me to use protein sparingly but my hair seems to love protein.

Not sure on the emmolients either. I use Spiral Solutions and the only thing was recommended was Deeply Decadent from that line. I usually get good results with using that line,,,so as long as I still do,,,I will keep using it,,,but will try other suggestions.

Good luck everyone!

I have to admit, I'm almost more confused about my hair than I was before - and I was hoping Curl Genie would clarify some things! Some of my information seemed to contradicting, like in some sections I was told to stay away from protein, in some I was told to use it, and I was told I didn't really need deep conditioning but then there were suggestions for DTs anyway! And some things, I almost felt like I was in college, hearing a lecture after missing several classes. Like, it was assumed that I would know which emollients were heavy/light, etc.

I was surprised when I got my results awhile ago too. I thought I had med-coarse, high porosity (due to swimming 2x/wk and being in the sun quite a bit) and low elasticity. Turns out I am medium texture, normal porosity and normal elasticity.

Some of the products on their list I tried and hated. It is a good list for people just starting out and trying to pick products though.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic

I've been using the GTTT as my shampoo, and the Cherry Blossom as my RO and LI. Even though it wasn't on our list I've been using AOHR as my rinse out about every third or fourth shampoo. I can't figure out if the ingredients in there are proteins or emollients or both? Doesn't seem to hurt anything. Then I read on another thread something about mixing a small amount of your LI with a light gel to kind of make your own curl cream, so I've been mixing about a quarter-size amount of the SSCEJ with a dime-size amount of the Cherry Blossom and mixing it in my hands, them scrunching it in upside down and blotting the drips out. Then I get out and scrunch in the HETT mousse upside down, then side to side, then I use a quarter-size of the HE scrunching gel mixed with a pea-size of BRHG scrunched into the ends first, then the rest. Then I plop for about 20 minutes and put in my clips. Let it air dry as long as I can then diffuse. What a production!!!! I've been curly since October after a lifetime of straightening (I'm 51) and this is the first time I've actually gotten good results the last three days in a row, though! I think the SSCEJ must be light enough for us, too, but I can't used too much of it or my hair gets like hard seaweed (if that makes any sense). I agree that it's really hard to shop for anything, since we really don't know what's a light or heavy emmolient, I finally just decided to try the cheaper things on my list and it's been working out pretty good. I did just buy a new bottle of HE gel and the ingredients are slightly different and in a different order, so we'll see if they ruined it. Oh, and if you need a DT without protein the CJ Curl Rehab is what the Product guru on nc.com recommended for me. I cut back to every 2 weeks on those, and stopped doing PT's. I will say I was reading suggestions all the time from fine-haired CG's before I knew what I was and kept trying protein, because it made their curls spring back, but it can makes ours straw-like and that's what was happening to me. I've been better, since I scaled those back. So in that way, for sure the Curl Genie profile helped me. I think maybe the emollients we're supposed to stay away from are things like coconut oil and shea butter in things we use all the time. OK, I've given you 20 times more information that you could even possibly have ever wanted, I just got so excited when I saw all three characteristics just like mine after all this time!!

I ordered the premium curl genie profile and just got mine back today. Mine took almost 4 weeks to get here! Mine is sure not what I thought it would be either. Mine says Medium-Fine (medium with slightly fine characteristics), normal porosity and low elasticity(from daily straightening before . So we are almost the same I guess ththd. My hair really hasn't been looking too bad lately (my curl definition has been getting even better the warmer it gets), but it is dry like usual. I thought that I probably had high porosity b/c I seem to have trouble getting enough moisture and when I do it feels kind of dry within a few hours or so. I'm glad I know my properties now and I'm going to grab a couple of the recommended things and excited to try to better my hair
shoot! after reading this thread, I HAVE to send my sample in.
