Followed advice, but became stringy gross waves

My routine:
Wash with VO5 kiwi conditioner(smells awesome!), once a week shampoo
Condition w/ Garnier condit. + rinse
Comb while wet + blot with a towel
rake/scrunch Garnier leave in (or their regular condish even)
scrunch in La Bella Curl gel or just plain aloe vera gel
plop for 10-30 minutes
let air dry

Which produces stringy waves/curls that look hard yet frizzy :x When I try to scrunch the curls they just get frizzier and look the same. I gently run leave in condish and gel over the "top" of my hair to weigh down the frizz which does help. But I feel like with the way my hair looks, I'm embarrised to go out like this! I want soft full waves/curls, not these stringy over-producted looking ones. Any advice????
I'd start cutting back on products to start. Try just using a washing conditioner (v05 KLS should work fine) and scrunching in gel while wet. Plopping can be tricky, I get wierd hair when I do it but I've seen some beautiful hair from it too. 10-20 minutes could be too long for your hair. I can only do 5-10 minutes before I'm a frizzy mess!

I think scrunching in gel (or just aloe vera) and then scrunching out as much water as you can with a towel then air drying (or diffusing if you've got one) is probally a good place to start. Good luck!
Fine Wavy (2a)
Weeklyish shampoo with CO's inbetween to keep down the grease.

Your hair might be getting over-loaded with 'cones so take a look at your conditioner - there are many different Garnier ones and I believe that some have super-cones and others have more water-soluble ones.

Good luck and HTH some

I'm only using the Garnier products that have the water soluble cones, and I can tell it's not the same type of build up I would get if it was dimethicone, once I co-wash my hair out the product all comes out too. The problem though is that my hair is frizzy, so that's why I was using so much conditioner. Granted I haven't been CG for very long so maybe it will get less frizzy as time goes on.
I would say stop combing, or raking or anything like that and scrunch with a paper towel.

Scrunch products in when hair is wet keeps it from getting stringy.

Good luck!!

I'll third that. No combing, raking or running your fingers through your hair after your shower is done. Also use your products on sopping wet hair. Be gentle with your hair don't over scrunch.

I also find that diffusing can help pump up my curls/waves. I also have to try my best to keep my hands off of it for at least 4-5 hours. It sometimes starts looking bad but dries into a nice look.

try different stuff and eventually something will work.
My hair is a mix of 2b/3a and even a bit of 3b thrown in! I would call my hair wavycelli. It curls most when I leave it alone after wet scrunching. My hair has a spring factor of about 2 or 3 inches and has a very silky, medium texture.
