FSG help please!

So i tried to make FSG tonight. I did it first with 1/4 cup golden flax seeds to one cup of water, I couldn't strain it no matter what I did. then I did 1/2 cup to two cups water, tried straining it through panty hose and couldn't do it, then i did the same ratio and took it off too early, strained, and put it back in the pot to heat but it didn't thicken up.. what consistency am i looking for?
You want it thick enough that you can pick it up, but thin enough that it starts to run in between your fingers.
What I do is soak the seeds overnight in a pot. Then I turn the burner to medium high. I stir occasionally. Once the pot is boiling all the way to the center, I shut off the heat and strain.
It does take a couple attempts to get it right. I've made the unstrainable ball of goo too.

I think the items you're using have too small a mesh. You want something that looks like window screen. I just bought a new strainer and most of them at the store had too small a mesh. The holes between the wire should be just a bit smaller than the flaxseeds.
These are usually pretty large strainers, not the little "tea strainers" that fit in a mug, although some of those can work -- if they have a big enough mesh-size.

No way will you be able to strain FSG through pantyhose!
I don't think the problem was your FSG, I think it was that your strainer is not quite right. Look around for a different strainer. They're usually cheap. In more ways than one.

I have successfully used a pantyhose but it required a good amount of brute force! Lol! I would pour the gel in the hose, which I had cut up and tied into a knot at one end, then I would put on dishwashing gloves and squish it through. A bit like milking a cow... it works, but a strainer is way easier. I bought one that is made to catch stuff in a drain. It is quite small but the mesh is the perfect size.
okay, I'll give that a go this weekend, thanks!

so peda the consistency is going to be a lot runnier than deva angel and the other gels that i've used correct? I did it the way you described and am getting ready to use it, I'll let you know how it comes out!

Hopefully some of that makes sense.

can it be too thin? or is it just kind of whatever texture it comes out it does about the same? sorry for all the questions, learning curve!
If it is too thin to pick up, it would be too thin. Thicker is better because it has more of the flax goodness. But not so thick you can't strain it. Once you get the hang of it, it is easy.

waves, loose coils, and cherub curls (=mixed 2s through 3a), very fine texture overall (but with medium and even coarse strands scattered throughout)
