Protein Questions/Stuff

So I did my first PT yesterday (used Silk Naturals Deep protein treatment) and while I think it went fine, I was kind of expecting more dramatic results. How long do you keep the treatment in before washing it out? I low-pooed, then applied the treatment and kept it in I guess for about 7-10 min before washing it out and doing a quick RO with KCKT. Should I have kept it in longer to get more drastic results or am I expecting too much?? Thanks!!!!

What sort of results are you looking for?

Protein will help your hair feel better if it needs protein. It can feel thicker and stronger after a protein tx. If it doesn't feel different, perhaps you didn't need it? Or maybe it didn't go into your hairs?

Hope you get an answer. My hair is protein shy most of the time but I use protein conditioner if the hair is droopier than usual, consistently, for a few days. Which is 4-5x a year. This seems to indicate it "needs" the protein, and in that case it gets bouncier after the treatment. Is this the situation you were in? Uncharacteristically droopy waves?

Yeah my waves felt kinda droopy so I thought I'd get some more bounce out of the treatment. Like I said, nothing BAD happened I guess I was just thinking of more volume or bounce? I'm definitely gonna give it another try in a week or so. Thanks!!

Here is what is true for me personally. I have very fine hair.
I like to do hour long PTs as Rymorg suggests in her "tips on PTs for newbies and not so newbies" thread. (title is close, thread is in the techniques sticky) I found I got better results that way. The proteins have more time to make it into the hair's cortex. I don't find leaving the DT on an hour to make much of a difference for me.
I think it pays to experiment with different types of protein. I started doing the Ion effective care PT. It has hydrolyzed vegetable protein. It helped. I could even get slightly too much protein using this PT. But, I didn't get the rusults I got with collagen. In the summer I use ecostyler and that has wheat protein, which also helps. I liked that protein too. However I got major results when I started using hydrolyzed collagen (in aphogee 2-step, nexxus emergencee, IAgirl's gelatin PT). Much better support for my super fine hair's structure. It makes my hair more able to support itself. In fact I just did one yesterday after going too long in between PTs. I really made a difference. My hair bounced up and has more volume.
It also may take more then one PT to make a difference. I'd say since you didn't have negative results, try it again for sure.

I do PTs about 1x/wk in the summer, mostly because I have time.

I try to low poo, apply the PT for about an hour, rinse, apply DT for about an hour and rinse again and style as usual.

It seems to make my hair wavier for awhile and nice and shiny!
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves

rinse out: CJ Beauticurls, CJ A&OO, CJ Smoothing
