Clump issues...

I feel like I'm having a good clumpy hair-day because of this whole new routine I tried HOWEVER, it's a bit frizzy and my hair when dry it DE-clumps when I try to SOTC and gets frizzy. Does this happen to everyone too? I just make a bigger mess when I try doing this. I do it gently so I know that's not the problem. Maybe I'm making my hair do something it simply doesn't do, it's normally stringy and thin waves...

New routine -last night:

  • Tilted head (left/right) Rinsed OneC while scrunching separating clumps and then applied B'Leave-in (can't wait until that product runs)
  • Plopped (30 mins) took forever to dry so I ...
  • Applied HETT + Pixie Diffused

2nd Day:
Applied Leave-In Conditioner spray
HETT (little)
Mist-er Right
Set-it-Free

I think my hair is a bit frizzy...as you can see I put a ton of stuff so now I don't know what it is that might've worked but frizz is getting on my nerves! Am I expecting perfection here?

**Edit: Sorry 3rd pic tired/no make up!

If you do a forum search on clumping you can find techniques that aid in that. The technique sticky in the General discussion forum lists a few different clumping techniques, such as Super Soaker and Scrunch and Pump. I find that Ecostyler krystal and Curl Junkie Curl Queen really encourage clumping. Also, do not SOTC too vigourously or you can break up the clumps.

You say that you scrunch "separating clumps." Do you intend to separate them or is that just what happens? If it's the latter you probably just need to amend your application technique.

Also, you say you have frizz but I just don't see any! lol. Your hair is very lovely and I just want you to know that I don't see any frizz, so any frizz you think you have is probably not discernible to anyone else looking at your hair

hope that helps.

It doesn't separate on its own. If I don't separate while running the water it will separate into this stringy frizzy mess, so I have to run the water and then separate clumps and scrunch...

I think I need a better styler to encourage clumps, HETT makes it very stringy ...

Thanks for the compliment maybe I'm being way too picky and expecting frizz free perfect clumps/curls which I probably don't have to begin with, maybe my hair is just plain wavy and some areas a little curlier OR since it's blonde I can see all these imperfections way more...

In what order do you use Ecostyler and CJCQ?

I hated HETT. It made my hair worse. But it works for some people.

I do leave-in, Ecostyler or CJCQ, then a stronger gel on top like HE SMU.

I think what you have in your pics is what I see when I see (pictures of) professionally styled-to-be-curly hair, to a greater or lesser degree. I think your clumps look about right, you've got nice waves and the way your hair grows determines those clumps more than anything else. If you try to get them to clump against their nature, they'll fight back to do what they want to do. It's pretty. I have smallish clumps too and at first I hated it. Now I don't because I understand that's just how they grow.
I wonder if you're comparing your styled hair to hair that is perfectly frizz-free because it has been styled with a curling iron (most people on tv and in magazines etc).
I don't even see a lot of frizz in your pics although I am not personally an anti-frizz fanatic. Waves and curls need a little frizz or they look fake.

Don't go and get all perfectionist-y, head in the other direction! Learn to love variability and unpredictability and develop methods of handling different "hair behaviors."

I'm kind of on the fence about HETT. It's unpredictable.

I think your hair looks great!!! I don't see any frizz either. I know it's frustrating though. My hair always clumps really well at the bottom but not the top so it's frustrating to me. I gave up clumps. I was loving HETT but now it's not doing so well. I think my hair hates products used for more than a month. That's about how long I last on one. I need a new one!

OMGosh, you are my new hair idol! Your hair is so beautiful! I love it. I don't see any frizz, either. I think we are all just too critical of ourselves. I love it. Keep doing what you did, because it's looking great!

I agree! I think you are being a little too critical of your hair! I love it! To me it looks like you have a good mix of clumpage and volume! I either have one or the other LOL.
