Omg! I love it!! Regular FSG has never done much for my hair but I wanted to try it again so after I made some I was excited to see your recipe. I scrunched plenty of this in, plopped for 20 mins, fixed my part, scrunched a little more with my mf towel, let it all dry, sotc'd and I have had such soft and super wurly hair all day!! Bouncy too!! I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never used honey in anything for my hair and used 6 drops. For the conditioner I used my Alaffia Beautiful Curls leave in which I got a few days ago at WF and wasn't sure if I liked because my hair seemed too fluffy/poofy with it... I haven't been liking how my hair has been looking lately, need a trim soon, and this was a wonderful surprise. For the gel I just used Aussie Instant Freeze. The only thing was I could have used more volume on top, I was too lazy to clip today. Thank you soooo much for posting this!

Wavy Brunette - that's so great to hear. 6 drops of honey, eh? I'm gonna try that.

Soft, super wurly hair makes me happy, even when it's not mine!

Yes 6, was not too crunchy either...think I could handle a few more maybe too, but my hair is plenty longer than your beautiful hair

I think THIS is what my styling routine has been missing! I mixed some up again, using FSG, SMCES, and FX wild hair harvest curl boost fixative gel (left out the honey/agave) and used it for smasters again. I have been diffusing it a little more dry than usual than scrunch this mix in all over. It sort of relaxes my hair back down than I diffuse for another minute or so and WOW! It curls up perfectly after that. I have tried smasters before with all kinds of things from all the different gels I have, to the smoothie and the SM curl and style milk, to plain condish, and nothing does what this does. I wanted to get a pic yesterday, but I was dealing with back to school stuff so I didn't have time.
I meant to mix some up with the honey (or agave) and see how it works out as an all in one, but I forgot to do it before I took my shower.

I think I am going to try this, but I think I need to start fresh with a new batch of FSG as the current batch seems to be leaving my hair flaky. I think it is from the bits of conditioner/PT that never fully integrated into the mix. It dries like fluff or dust on my hair. I think also, judging on how often I am washing and using the FSG, that I can halve the recipe so it won't go bad so soon. I have way more than I am gonna use up in a 2 week period. If I had a clue of where to get preservatives on the ground, inexpensively, I might make the bigger batches though.

Plunky, you can freeze part of a batch and it will be just fine when it thaws.
A conditioner would probably mix better with FSG in the presence of a thickener like cornstarch or xanthan gum etc. Added when cool is best.

Question for all the experts...

Do you think this will work without any honey/agave?

I've been looking for a curl cream I can use in winter but for me that would mean no humectants. I haven't been able to find one in stores. This recipe may be a great option if it would work without the honey/agave...

Any thoughts?

Bliss: about leaving out the honey/agave:
Sure, why not?
I put the honey/agave in there to add a bit more hold without adding more liquid volume. I wanted the FSCC to be at least 50% FSG.
If it turns out that you want more hold than the basic recipe gives you, just add more gel. Good luck!
And did you have to remind all of us that winter is looming in the distance? I'm trying to keep the denial going!!!

HA HA! You are too funny! It is sad that summer is coming to an end. And I am so not looking forward to switching all the clothes out to winter stuff. And I'm still experimenting with my summer hair routine! Now I'll have to figure my winter one out. Sigh... at least I'll have your curl cream to add in to my routine now!

Mine's all mixed and ready to go for tomorrow. Too lazy today.... I used my usual LI, AOHR and BRHG for the gel. I'll update once I try it. Smells great though! Wonder if the shelf life is longer once it's mixed with the "commercial" products?

Oh, good observation! AO does not reveal their preservatives on the label, but you're getting the commercial preservatives in 50% of the mix, so they're cut in half, but they're there. It should help some.

So, I finally tried it!!! YAY!!! And I'm not quite sure what I think yet. I think this is gonna TOTALLY rock in the winter, though. I don't know if my summer hair is crazy about it. But, it was definitely awesome to try! I was very confused when I put it on because my hair wasn't clumping right as I was applying it, and that usually means I'm going to have a bad hair day. So, I put a little LA Looks NutraCurl in, but it still looked funny. Then I decided it was time to pull out the big stuff -- my Aussie Instant Freeze gel -- and I went into my plop and diffused. It came out looking pretty good. Not as curly as usual, but super shiny and soft!! My underlayer is just giving me all kinds of problems lately, so maybe that's what was throwing me off. I think it has LOTS of promise!!! I am so trying this in the winter, though!!

What about build-up from your castile soap as a problem with clumping? If you imagine soap residue clinging to your hair (and scalp) - it might be self-repellent. Once I washed with Dr. Bronners bar soap with no acid rinse. Then I went out of town for a week, washing with sulfate shampoo during that time. I still had that waxy, dirty-feeling hair residue. I had to use baking soda and water mixed as a paste to scrub off that waxy gunk (which is how I clean it out of my tub too) and then my hair was back to normal (after an acid rinse).
I was surprised that sulfate shampoo didn't remove the residue.

My summer hair loves FSCC, I need to make some more. But I used no LI with it and little conditioner because I knew I was using FSCC.

I keep thinking about the Castile Soap building up, too. I never thought about it "hindering" my clumping, though! That is a valid point!! That one time I accidentally used shampoo on my hair made it feel really soft, and I think it was from build up. Then again, this recent batch of FSG that I made seems weird, like IT is the thing that's making me "un-clumpy." Weird!! The Castile Soap is really driving me nuts lately, though! On the up side, I tried it as a body wash yesterday, and it was FANTASTIC!! I am going to try using it up that way. Oh well, guess I'm gonna have to use BS again! It makes my scalp all itchy because it's so drying.

I didn't use a LI with it, either, which is surprising for me!! I DID use my Tresemme condish in it, though, which is really moisturizing and "non-light" IMO. I thought it would actually be too MUCH condish (OMG, I didn't just say "too much" and "conditioner" in the same sentence, did I?!), but it worked out really nicely! I think I just gotta play with it a little. I am really seeing the potential, though!!

If regular shampoo will take off the soap residue, maybe you needn't subject your scalp to baking soda. It is pretty irritating. I hope that works for you.
I think the FSCC works best with a gel that doesn't have many "other" ingredients in it aside from the hold-providing ones and liquid, so I imagine something like BHRG or really bare-bones (super-glue-y) like that to be ideal.

I see that WNW used some other products with FSG curl cream, but are the rest of you just using it by itself?

I love experimenting with IAGirl's concoctions!
