Washing out coconut oil

Finally found some extra virgin coconut oil and I'm excited to start playing with it. I know many people use it on dry hair before they wash, but are you supposed to rinse it out with shampoo or can you co-wash it out? I am currently not using any type of shampoo and would like to pick some up if that's how to best get it out. I don't want greasy head.

Thanks for the help!

For me it cowashes out easily, but this varies from person to person.

2a (nc.com) 2bFi (Fia), very fine, thin, low/normal elasticity, porous, CG, doesn't get weighed down
Cowash: Tresemme naturals
Rinse out/leave in: Renpure Organics (red)
Curl enhancer: FSG
Gel: BRHG, Salon care aloe, Ecostyler Krystal (normal dews)

Low Poo: renpure (red), Ion swimmers
Since coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft only the excess remains on the hair and I find much of mine is removed by the very warm water I rinse with prior to my ACV cleansing. I don't shampoo or co-wash. I pre-poo with it and use it between washes. My hair is not greasy afterwards. No worries for u

Will you look back on life and say I wish I had or I'm glad I did. -Sent from my iPod touch using CurlTalk-
It's easier for me to rinse any kind of oil with a cowash than a shampoo. Sounds weird I know, but I swear if I wash with shampoo sometimes I can smell the EO's I mix with my carrier oils in my hair lol gross

Perhaps I used too much but I put it on my hair last night and this morning it was REALLY hard to wash out. It just felt like the water was sliding over my hair and it felt greasy and... grimy. It looks fine but it feels really weird. How do I get it out? ACV rinse? Baking soda?

I have to shampoo it out. Like yours, water just seems to glide over my hair when it has coconut oil in it. I only use a little bit, never too much or a lot and still find it hard to get out. I do like to use coconut oil though. I usually use it when my hair feels super dry or if I wash my hair at night I put coconut oil on my hair in place of or in conjunction with a leave in

I've been trying to stay away from shampoo but I think I need it because this feeling is not nice. UtterlyLily how do you like the Kinky Curly shampoo? I've tried the Deva one and so far it's my favorite. I can't seem to find a cheaper alternative. Giovanni's was kind of harsh.

I've found that now that my hair is healthier, it takes a fairly strong low poo (or preferably a real shampoo, like Suave) to get it out. My hair's been funky lately and a little OC'd, though, so this could change. It used to come right out with a low poo. I never tried CO-washing EVCO out (because I always low poo all the time anyway due to scalp issues), but I don't think I'd feel comfortable CO-washing it out...unless my hair was SUPER dry. I think even a super gentle low poo would be better. But it really depends on your individual head of hair. Ped said she washed it out no problem with a CO-wash, so it could work that way, too.
Type 2c/3a with lots of hair and a super sensitive scalp! Med/slightly coarse texture, low porosity and elasticity.
