Default X-post with main forum, DIY styling, um, "foam"

You know you can make your own spray gel by diluting another gel with boiled water.
I hate the spray part.
Love the diluted gel part, though. Softer (er, lighter) hold for more "boing" in fine hair.

1) Buy and use up one of those "foaming hand soap" or "foaming dish soap" dispensers.
2) Rinse really well with diluted bleach and pump it through the pump, then rinse well with clean water and pump that through the pump too.
3) Dilute gel of your choice, 50-50 gel/water in the bottle
4) Shake/swirl well and try it through the pump.

It probably won't foam much. To get it to act foamier, you can add a very small amount of a very mild shampoo or a little light (not thick) conditioner - those are both surfactants.

It's cheap and easy and seems to work well - especially for sticky, harder-hold gels when you don't want such a sticky, hard-hold gel.

Perfect for people who like a little hard-hold gel over something like FSG or KMFUM because the "foam" gel distributes very well.

I've done that with an old Aveda Phomolient pump bottle before, though I think mine was more diluted, which may be why I was not thrilled with it.

you can just buy an empty foamer bottle for cheaper than the price of buying one with soap in it and waiting to use it all up...just saying

great idea!

I looked into that. You can't get them around where I live and on Amazon it wasn't worth the price of shipping. Joy of living in a small town. I'd be curious to know where you could get them on the ground.

my local co-op carries them

Have you tried getting them at online cosmetic supply stores? I don't know where you are located, but that could be an option especially if you already are making an order of oils/butters etc.
