Hairspray - who can't live w/out it?

I must be one of a few that can't live without hairspray. Even since going CG...I just can't handle willy-nilly hair with no hold. I use a hard hold gel, but my hair is fine/ wavy and needs a finisher to keep it in place. I've been using Pantene curls pump spray (not an aerosol). Anyone else in the boat that I'm in...and if so... what spray do you use? I'm open to suggestions.

I like the rave level 4 from walmart. It's cheap and has great long hold!!

I still use it sometimes! I use GF flexible hold. It has no cones, the hold isn't "net-like", but it keeps it controlled. Decent hold but touchable, I guess.

When I curl my bangs I use a harder hold hairspray on them to keep the swept-over look in place.
2c/3a/3b, Fine/med, Dense, high porous, & normal elas.

Lo-poo - Renpure Keratin, SMR, Giovanni SaS
clarifying - mix Johnson's H2T with low poo
Co-wash - Suave Nats. clar. or coco.
RO - GVPCB, Ion Eff. Care, TN.
LI - SMR, Cure Care, or RO
Seal - MO or Jojoba
DT - + honey, ACV, & EVOO to SM masque & GVPCB
PT - Gelatin!, CNPF
Styling - FSG, AIF, BRHG, LALS/PS, GF curl spray gel, SM Souffle/Smoothie, LOOB
Oils - MO!, EVOO, jojoba, GSO, SM Elixer, EVCO, VO5 Hairdressing
While I can go without and still have acceptable hair, I get more volume and wave definition that lasts all day if I use some right after I SOTC.
scientist, cat owner, hobby photographer
2b-c, medium porosity, medium texture, protein-indifferent
former straightening junkie; CG since August 2011
conditioners: V05 Kiwi Lime, Garnier pure clean, Renpure Keratin
products: FSG, LALSG, AIF, BRHG, Tresemme hair spray
styling tools: microfiber towel for plopping, diffuser
My hair holds up better (a lot better) if I spray it but I keep it to once a week or less out of fear it will dry it out, since the hair has been in such good condition and I'm not sure if ditching the hairspray is part of that.

I use the Tresemme Naturals hairspray, it has a short ingredient list. Really strong fragrance though so not good if you are sensitive to that.

Wash: DevaCare Low Poo
Detangle & Rinseout: Walgreens or Sally's Conditioning Balm (always)

It's interesting seeing how many people use and love hairspray! I never really experimented with it, but I think if I did use something as a final product for long-lasting control, it would be a spray gel. I don't know why, but I was never drawn to hairspray as a product, probably because it just feels so icky (even to me, and I like using lots of gel ). Ha ha, go figure!
Type 2c/3a with lots of hair and a super sensitive scalp! Med/slightly coarse texture, low porosity and elasticity.

Favorite...
Low poo: Organix TTM, Essential Wholesale Free & Clean
RO/LI: TN, GFTN, YTC
Stylers: EcoStylers, GF Curl Shaping Gel, Aussie Aussome Volume Mousse & Instant Freeze Gel, GFPC, LALNC, La Bella Lots of Curls, Apricot Oil, KMFUM, AO B5DG
Extras: sugar scrubs, AVG washes, pre-poos with EVCO, oiling scalp before washes, plopping, gelatin PT.
Mod-CG since 12/1/10!
I use gel and hairspray

WavyNWild, I also like CCCCLite mixed with a little gel as a final-hold product sometimes, emulsify these between hands, dab gently around hair with head upside down, reach inside the hair, scrunch; then again with head right side up and then smooth the little bit left over the top layer of hair. This is sort of the opposite of hairspray but does provide a little additional hold.

But nothing works like hairspray. It doesn't feel good but my hair looks spectacular with a good dose of hairspray, always do this for a night out.

I don't like anything for a final product that I have to use hands to put in cuz it feels it makes it frizzier

I agree also that my hair looks better, more defined with spray after I scrunch & fluff a little. I don't airdry, but I diffuse and am fully dry before I leave the house. I suppose for those that airdry and have damp hair for a long time...hairspray would probably feel pretty nasty (ha). I wish I was a 'low maintenance' girl, just don't think I'll ever be. I thought that going CG would be easier/ quicker in the AM...that was just my crazy thinking (ha)

I air dry and my hair doesn't feel nasty with the hairspray, i like the crunchy most times so I like it a lot and since it air dries it gives it a lil more time to do its thing I guess u cld say?!?! Like where and how it wants to lay

Ever since I found Giovanni LA Hold Hair Spritz about a year ago, I'm back to using spray again most days. I don't have to use so much gel and can use a softer one as long as I have this for my top and front.

  • It's almost totally alcohol-free
  • Almost no scent and none that lingers
  • Hair is still touchable yet it holds well
  • Doesn't build up or flake at all
  • Mostly natural, organic ingredients
  • A little goes a long way, so a bottle lasts me a long time. I'm only on my second or third one for the year - I think this is still #2.
The only things I don't like about it is that it's not readily available 'on the ground' - I order a couple of bottles at a time. And the top of the pump bottle doesn't screw off, so if you need to open it for some reason, it takes really strong hands or a bottle opener or something to pry it open.

I pay about $7 a bottle on-line. I haven't checked any health food stores, but they probably have it, but it's likely more expensive . . . .

CORRECTION: It's less than $5 - see the link in the other post below
2C/3A/3B - modified CG - fairly fine now, normal/low porosity/normal elasticity

Current Main Rotation: MG217 medicated or Aim2Health 'poos for scalp, Elucence cond., Spiral Solutions Protein & Deeply Decadent Cond., CJCCCC reg or lite,CJ Pattern Pusha,, Giovanni LA Hold Hair Spritz + lots more, sporadically

HG Method: Super Soaker + Smasters-ing, brief upside down diffusing w/360o diffuser then clips/clamps & air dry. Newly gray - stopped my henna glosses!

I am a hairspray junkie and recently discovered One n Only Argan Oil Hairspray at Sally's. LOVE IT!! I wasn't that impressed w/ the other products in this line, but after hearing a lot of raves, got the hairspray and I've been so happy with it! It's just under $9 w/ your Sally card, kind of pricey for a Sally hairspray, I think, but totally worth it!
oh my gosh, I cannot stand hairspray!!!!!!!! lol
<3 Our love is like the wind; I can't see it. But I can feel it. <3

I can live without hairspray, I don't even think I could dry out my hair without fixing it with more condish so that doesn't even bother me. What I hate is the next day my hair feels so dirty and they tend to flake on me plus it's hard to wash co-wash out if I use it regularly. I'd love to find a finishing spray that holds well, doesn't make my hair feel dirty, doesn't build up & doesn't flake. Is that too much to ask for ? I'm gonna check out the homemade spray mentioned. I also find Spray Gel doesn't do squat in comparison. My waves are weaker in Winter so I wouldn't mind finding a good spray right about NOW

Del, I think the LA Hold Hair Spritz does everything you list . . . I can't stand spray gels, either. They don't dry fast enough and just make a gunky mess, IMO

www.luckyvitamin.com/p-13232-giovanni-la-hold-styling-spritz-maximum-hold-5-oz

Target, Rite-Aid and others places that carry Giovanni probably have it, but I first saw it at the above site while ordering something else and have continued getting it there since I order supplements there regularly, and I doubt you'd find it cheaper on the ground . . . .
