How much conditioner and gel do you use?

Lately, I've been thinking that my lackluster hair could be the result of using too much product. When showering, how much conditioner do you use?
Also, when applying gel, how much do you use? Enough to form the initial curl cast, or just to coat your waves?
LOL, this is a bad question for me to answer, because I definitely don't think I'm in the norm with any type of product application! I used to use TONS of conditioner (like at least three overflowing handfuls of it every time I washed), but I've been getting better. My new protein-loving hair likes less conditioner, so I cut it down to about three half dollar-sized amounts. Still a lot, but better. With gel, I always seem to use a lot, no matter what kind of hold it is or how little I can get away with. More is better, for me. I use at least three palmfuls of all my products all over my hair, and a lot of times it's a lot more than that. I like control, and I definitely like crunch and hold.

wavynwild I didn't know you used that much product, lol!

I use a couple quarters worth of conditioner I guess (it's really hard to judge; I just squirt conditioner in my hair and if it's not enough I use more!) and rake it through and then comb.

Amount of gel really depends on what gel it is. When I use AIF I need a couple of fairly big globs, when I use CJ CQ I need much less since it's more concentrated.

Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

LOL! Yes, I am shamefully guilty as charged! Although my low porosity hair seems to "reject" lots of product (so it glops up on the outside of the hairs) instead of soaking it up, it helps to form the gel cast, I guess. I love me some crunch because soft hair poofs out on me! I'm so strange...

I also use loads of product, but less than when I first went CG. My hair is long (just shy of my waist) and thick though, so I think no matter what I would need more than average, lol. I use about 2 palmfuls of conditioner and about twice that much gel (3 palms on dripping hair in the shower, another after removing water).
If I don't have a strong cast, my hair doesn't have much definition and it just gets fluffy and, um, big.
I do not cowash so my conditioner use may be a lot different than others. I use just maybe a nickel size amount and only on my ends after lowpooing. I rinse it all out.
Oh, wavy. You are not alone, girl. I use a pea of LI, then a bunch of a curl cream, then top it with one or two gels, so I am a heavy product user as well.

Count me in as ALSO going heavy on the products...I layer them also - Usually AVG under a harder hold gel these days. I don't know about amounts, but at least 3 quarter size globs for my hair (and it's a few inches from my shoulders). I also don't co-wash, so I use a rinse out and I'd say a quarter sized or more for my hair to comb through/ detangle and rinse it all out. Maybe just a pea sized for a leave in....but not sure if I really need one. Goodluck and I hope you find what works for you.

Co-Wash: Tresemme or DevaCurl NoPoo
Stylers: As I Am Curling Jelly/GF Pure Clean/ LALCurl gel - all with BRHG added
Style: scrunch/ diffuse, then air dry. I don't Have much frizz at all
I do use a ton of condish because my hair eats and drinks it for breakfast it's so porous but I have become MUCH ore laid back on the styling products and my hair looks the better for it! I have very thick just below the shoulder hair and I usually use between one and two quarter sizes of product depending on what it is.

I too use a lot. For conditioner, it is mainly to help with tangles, but I do usually use some more after I have detangled and rinsed. Gel, I use different kinds at different periods of styling, so it could be considered a lot.
