Protein treatments are amazing things!

Just had to share, my curls are loving these protein treatments. Today I did IAGirl's PT mixed in with ION effective care (so that I could form a thicker formula with moisturizing). Left on with bag over my head for about 50 mins. Did my regular styling routine, however this time I plopped for a bit (3 min or so) after I got everything in there, when I took my hair out of the plop, OMG, curls galore, so I just diffused, clipped a bit at the top front only (I was tired of clipping and wanted to see if I could get away with not clipping so much).

I can definitely tell I need a PT by 6 days, sometimes I do a mini one mid-week to perk up the curls(hard when I'm pressed for time).

Is there ever a time the hair finally gets enough protein?

Thanks for all the help getting to this point! Now I just wish to have more hair and longer since I get quite a bit of shrinkage over when I was wearing my hair straight!

First off, your hair looks amazing. Shiny, nice curl formation, good clumps, bouncy, etc.

Second, if you think you hair needs lots of protein (sounds like it does), try the blow dryer version of IAgirl's gelatin PT. This really helped my hair "catch up" on protein. I still need weekly PTs, but now I alternate a 30 minute IAgirl PT with a 15 minute ion effective care. It took me about 3 hard PTs (IAgirl and aphogee, I prefer IAgirl's because it doesn't staaaank) to get "caught up" on protein. Blow the PT dry on low until it sort of sets. Then you can turn the blower up to high. It will seem like this will never wash out of your hair when you start to rinse, but it will soften and wash out. It just takes a bit more work.

My hair just LOVES protein. I do at least one PT a week and use lots of products with protein. Hair needs less protein, I tried to cut back and do PT once every 10 days--it wasn't enough. I went back to once a week. When the dewpoint gets higher, I go to twice a week. The second one is usually a "weaker" one like the Elucence Moisture Repair. I also use some of the milder PTs as leave ins--CJ Curl Fix and Mozeke Carrot Protein Mask.

My hair is at a point where it can get over-proteined. That's because I use FSG with a good bit of protein in it (an all-day PT)! And I have not been swimming in a chlorinated pool 2x per week, plus I put a chorine-removing filter on our shower. The pool really sucked out all the good stuff.
If I get too much, my hair looks straight-ish and does not feel soft and silky. It can feel like a sheet of rubber when wet and then kind of dry when dried.

You'll know if you get there. You'll get different results.
Looks just nifty! You're making me want to try plopping again with those cute little curls.

pedaheh, that explanation makes sense. I think I'm getting better at "reading" my hair. Last weekend was just CJ Curl Repair (left it in the whole day----lazy I was and not going anywhere), and that gave nice curls in the beginning of the week, then this weekend I felt I needed more, hence IAgirl PT. That one really packs a punch, doesn't it? I'm feeling like CJ Curl Repair is like a medium PT, IAgirl's is heavy, and ION effective care by itself pretty light. Does that sound about right?

kathymack, I do use a lot of products with protein in them. Interesting to know about the higher dews that you need even more PTs? I'm in CO and heading to FL soon to see family so wondering how I'm going to need to change up my routine for that week. I've just gotten pretty good at finding what works here in CO.

So another question, my curls were fabulous looking after the plop so I didn't want to mess with them too much and break up any clumps I had going(normally I find diffusing top upside down a bit, then rescrunch a bit of water/gel gets me good coverage on top but I wonder if I'm breaking up the clumps on top too much doing that), however, now that I didn't mess with those darn clips and my rescrunch/water/gel, my clumps curl right from the scalp so I have these little "sections" of curls. Even combing a bit (I don't like to comb, I get frizzy hair on scalp portion then and if I combed through to ends OMG, I don't even want to go there!), anyway, even combing, or finger combing to break up the clumps at the scalp after dry, it looks good for a bit, but then those hairs are just dying to get back to their clump party. The only thing I've found is clipping some of the mushed to head curl clumps with the standing up curl clumps while drying to try to get them all uniform. I hope that makes sense. Are there any other better ways to do this? It's hard trying to get coverage with my low density hair (even less dense now that I'm older)

Thanks for the compliments, no one else is getting this hair fascination I have (probably because they don't have curls or understand curls).

Clump Party. LOL!
You diffuse, right? I diffuse kind of sideways, and occasionally I stand upright and weave a finger under those places where hair gets mushed to my head to lift them up (it doesn't disturb clumps) and diffuse that spot for about 8-10 seconds. This can work better than clipping if I'm lucky. This is really good if your hair grows forward in some places or has different directional growth patterns.
