Default Pre oiling before dyeing hair.

I saw a Dr. Oz show where a guest suggested pre oiling your hair with coconut oil before dyeing. (edit: found the original thread. On Dr. Oz, they suggested adding coconut oil to the hair dye itself.) I posted a thread about it and Sanne gave me these links on how to do it.
Pre-oiling with coconut oil before chemical colour to help prevent damage | Curly Hair Forum by British Curlies
Possible way to protect hair from conventional peroxide damage - The Long Hair Community Discussion Boards
The second link is a 139 page link from The Long Hair Community.
I oiled my hair overnight (coconut oil), and then added some more in the morning. I changed the formula of my dye formula quite a bit, so I can't say for sure if the dye took better, but it definitely didn't take worse. The dye took really well in fact. My hair was soft and shiny (see second set of pics in my grow your hair thread). I also switched out the NPF in my dye formula for red CPF. So I can't say for sure that it was the coconut oil, but I believe it helped.
I plan on using coconut oil from now on when I dye my hair. For reference, I use semi permanent dye. I believe TLHC link says coconut oil works before permanent hair dying and henna (but I'm not sure).

ETA: My original thread.
Add coconut oil to your hair color????

Very interesting!

I helped a friend color her roots yesterday, and she said she'd been told to add Argan oil to the dye first. She was happy with the results.

I'll tell her about the coconut oil.

Thanks, p

I think TLHC link actually suggests a mix of coconut and argon oil. But I think it says you can also use one or the other. I haven't read the link in a few months, so I'm not sure.
