Default Salon Care Styling Gel with Aloe from Sally's

A couple people asked me to report back when I tried this gel. So, here goes.
https://www.sallybeauty.com/Aloe-Ver...efault,pd.html
Ingredients
Quote:
WATER ,PVP ,ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT ,CARBOMER ,TRIETHANOLAMINE ,FRAGRANCE ,POLYSORBATE 20 ,METHYLPARABEN ,DISODIUM EDTA ,DMDM HYDANTOIN
This gel smells bad, but the scent is not that strong. It stinks when you put it wet hair, but the smell dissipates quickly. The scent is hard to describe. Sweet + diesel fuel. My guess is ginger, jasmine, and diesel fuel.

This gel has magic clumping powers similar to ecostyler. I love me a magic clumping gel. Also, similar to ecostyler, when you scrunch it into wet hair, your hair feels dry and weird. I've only used it twice, but I'm pretty sure it isn't actually drying to hair. I can usually tell right away if something will be drying.

Medium hold. I'd say it is similar to HETT, maybe a little more hold.

I Pixie diffused and use a fairly strong leave in (renpure organics red bottle). Both of these give me less crunch then air drying. I had zero crunch. I normally use two products that greatly extend drying time (BRHG and FSG). My hair dried much, much quicker just using the Salon Care gel.

I think that about covers it. If anyone else has any other questions, I'll do my best to answer them. I plan to top this with BRHG (like I do everything).
TammyH, IAgirl and Touch.of.ink like this.

Sounds awesome Ped! Such a lovely short ingredients list. I love when gels have that. Fewer ingredients to make me itchy!! How would you compare the hold to EcoStyler? I hated HETT gel -- gave it away a while back to someone I knew, and I never repurchased, so I kinda forget what the hold was like. I remember very little hold, but I could be mistaken.

I can't say for sure what the relative hold is. I use ecostyler in normal dew summers when I tend to need less hold and I've only tried the Salon Care in the winter with lower dews when I need more hold. That said, I think the salon care has less hold then ecostyler krystal. I'd put salon care at a medium hold and ecostyler at a medium/firm to firm hold.

Sweet! Thanks, Ped! This sounds like a good springtime gel when I don't need as much hold.

Your review was very entertaining.. I'm still laughing about diesel fuel. Thanks for the review.

I may have to try this. I'm afraid my beloved aloe vera is causing break outs. Actually, I think it's the seaweed in the aloe vera gel, but the result is the same, scalp acne

I'll run these ingredients through my magic acne detector and see if any of them are comedogenic.

Magic acne detector? My dh gets terrible bumps on his scalp all the time. Any hints on fighting them would be appreciated.

When I was a teenager, I knew the list by heart, but now I use this list and see if any of the ingredients are in the products I'm using.
